Following a four-game losing streak, the Los Angeles Lakers rebounded with two critical wins over the Phoenix Suns and the San Antonio Spurs. During this span, JJ Redick‘s team has felt the lack of its leader, LeBron James, who is greatly missed on both sides of the court. James has particularly been highly vocal in defense and Redick acknowledges this.

In addition to the obstacle, the team is without forward Rui Hachimura because of an injury. However, James seems to be the Redick’s main concern. After the Spurs game, the Lakers HC sent a clear message to his superstar. Redick stated that the roster feels the absence of James on the court and needs him back as soon as possible.

‘You know who we miss?’ We miss your voice on the defensive end.’

JJ Redick told LeBron James

Injuries have been a major issue for the Lakers throughout a difficult stretch of the season. Hachimura has been out since late February due to a knee injury sustained during a victory over the Timberwolves. Meanwhile, James is battling a left groin strain sustained in a loss to the Celtics. The positive aspect for the Lakers is that the two players are approaching their return.

On the upside, the Lakers won against their arch-rivals, the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday at the Crypto.com Arena. Despite James and Hachimure being unavailable, the likes of Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves stepped up to snatch an important win in their bid to qualify for the NBA Playoffs. That said, all attention now drifts towards James’ possible return to the court.

LeBron James spotted coaching his Lakers teammates courtside

Lakers superstar, LeBron James did not suit up for Wednesday’s game against the Denver Nuggets, but the Lakers fanbase felt his presence on the court. Though he is still recovering from his injuries, the 40-year-old James sat courtside for Wednesday’s games at Crypto.com Arena, but he did not stay there long.

A video of an animated James, dressed in a Columbus Blue Jackets shirt, presumably delivering extra coaching to his colleagues while waving his hands and guiding them where to go began circulating on social media. Fans flocked to social media to commend James for attempting to motivate his teammates during his absence.

In James’ absence, Doncic exploded for 31 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and a block in the Lakers’ 12-point victory. Notably, some fans have agreed that James may have a future in teaching after his illustrious NBA career ends.

JJ Redick opened up on LeBron James’ possible return to the court

LeBron James went home early during the Lakers’ road trip to work on his rehabilitation. Also, head coach JJ Redick verified that James and regular power forward Rui Hachimura are both day-to-day (via Jovan Buha of The Athletic). However, Redick also stated that the team’s busy schedule might prevent the two players from attending full practices or “stay-ready” scrimmages before their return.

Very unlikely that there’s stay-ready games for Rui and LeBron. I’d have to look at the next three weeks, but very unlikely they practice. I think there’s a practice in April. That’s just the reality of playing every other day.

This is unpleasant news, as training for players coming from injuries is sometimes considered a requirement before they may play in games. Unfortunately, the Lakers’ present schedule makes it difficult for James and Hachimura to do so. Despite the hurdles, Redick told reporters that the Lakers’ medical staff, led by Leroy Sims, will collaborate closely with James’ veteran trainer Mike Mancias to guarantee both players return safely and fully well.
