JJ Redick continues search for new home after Wildfire tragedy
JJ Redick was one of the many victims caught up in the tragic Los Angeles Wildfires last month. The fires, which ravaged Southern California, also hit the iconic Pacific Palisades locality, where many, including Redick, resided. With the All-Star break coming up, the rookie head coach has his eyes set on what he wants to do off the court.
While much of Redick’s focus has gone into readjusting the Los Angeles Lakers game plans after their shocking acquisition of Luka Doncic, the top priority for him during the All-Star break will be to settle into a new home. While most players and coaches will take a much-deserved break to reset and get back into their groove post-All-Star weekend, Redick will be filing out insurance claims for his home.
My goal for All-Star break is I finalize my insurance claims and that I find an apartment to live in. So, that’s what I’m hoping for. And get out of the hotel that would be nice.
JJ Redick told reporters
So far, JJ Redick and his family have been living in local hotels as the Lakers head coach has found very little time away from the team to manage his own affairs. After the devastating fires to his home, Redick has seen an outpouring of love and support from across the NBA. Not only did he and his family lose their home, but they also lost the priceless jersey collection of their children, which Redick now looks to rebuild.
On Wednesday, the Lakers played their last game before the All-Star Weekend kicks off on Friday with the Rising Stars game. Now, the team and Reddick have an entire week off before they play again next Wednesday against the Charlotte Hornets.
JJ Redick dishes on Luka Doncic’s European counterpart’s debut
The Lakers had just one thing in mind after acquiring Luka Doncic during the trade deadline – pair him with athletic, rim-running big men. They had hoped that trading for Hornets Center Mark Williams would answer those questions, but unfortunately, Williams’ health would cause the trade to be rescinded.
On Wednesday, the Lakers and JJ Redick finally saw the debut of their alternative backup big man, Alex Len, who the team had just signed a day prior.
JJ Redick said he thought Alex Len was “fine” tonight in his debut and that he was put in a tough spot having to play so much after just joining the group.

Alex Len was supposedly the Lakers front office’s answer to questions about their frontcourt depth after losing out on the Mark Williams trade. The Ukrainian big man played his first game in purple and gold on Wednesday, recording 4 points in nearly 22 minutes with 7 rebounds and a block with a -9 plus-minus in his minutes during the Lakers 131-119 loss to the Utah Jazz.
For a team like the Lakers, who seemed to have found their groove of late, the loss to the Jazz is a bit of a disappointment, especially for JJ Redick and their coaching staff, who would have looked to go into the All-Star break on a high note.
