JJ Redick storms off a presser after loss to Memphis

The Los Angeles Lakers found themselves in recently-familiar waters as they fell to the Memphis Grizzlies. The loss was a heavy blow to the players and the team given their hot start to the season. It was especially for head coach JJ Redick, who stormed off a media presser after the game.

The reporters bombarded JJ Redick with questions that led to the loss while Anthony Davis’s injury status was also brought up. Safe to say the former Duke villain was not too happy about the 131-114 blowout loss. Redick was abruptly seen leaving the post-game interview after questions about LeBron James.

I just did.

JJ Redick replied

A direct reply came after one of the reporters kept throwing nonsensical questions to Redick. The question entailed the head coach’s previous response, ironically answering the question being asked itself.

Although it may look like an impulsive move from the Laker’s coach, he has had his fair share of media training. Before his young coaching career began, Redick ran as an analyst for ESPN while maintaining multiple podcast shows and he even had a short podcast stint with James.

JJ Redick justifies his decision to bench D’Angelo Russell

Redick’s coaching debut started off red-hot with the team winning game after game. However, following the team’s loss to the Grizzlies, the Lakers are stuck in a rut. A stark contrast to the team’s initial start.

The blowout loss to Memphis carried a lot of action and drama, with one in particular standing out as D’Angelo Russell was benched after playing only 22 minutes. Many questions were raised as to why a $60 million player sat the remainder of the game.

Again just level of compete, attention to detail… you know some of the things we have talked with him about for a couple of weeks. At times he’s been really good with that stuff, and other times, it’s just reverting back to certain habits but you know wasn’t like a punishment I just felt like you know for us to have a chance to win the game that was the route we want to take.

JJ Redick clarified

The head coach then blasted Russell’s ‘lack of competing’ and his ‘reverting to old habit’. The point guard was subbed out after two missed threes and a defensive blunder. Redick also said he decided to check in Gabe Vincent on the floor.
