As the Los Angeles Lakers have hired JJ Redick as their head coach, many things around the team might change now. There are high expectations from Redick in terms of a fresh style of coaching that will bring success to the Lakers. Player development remains another important factor. Hence, Austin Reaves‘ agent claimed the player would be on a different level under Redick’s coaching.

When Austin Reaves was a guest on JJ Redick‘s podcast, the host showed great admiration for the young star. Considering this, agent Aaron Reilly stated on X that Redick’s coaching will show a new side of Reaves’ game. Reilly has not forgotten all the ‘third superstar’ conversations, as he called the next season ‘big’ under Redick.

Ever since the Lakers got out of the playoffs, there has been a lot of talk about the team adding a third star besides LeBron James and Anthony Davis. As many of these hypothetical deals had Reaves’ name, the agent decided to clear the air. With Redick’s admiration kept in mind, the coach would greatly help improve Reaves.

Last year, Reaves signed a four-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, but the trade talks started when the team’s season was cut short. But it seems that the guard might stay with the team and finish his contract, considering Reilly’s tweet. It will be interesting to see what Reaves does under the new coach next season.

Austin Reaves wants to win a championship with the new coach

Ever since the Lakers fired Darvin Ham, the curiosity of the new coach has piqued the interest of the NBA world. The team was rumored to be talking to multiple candidates, but one name was always prominent throughout the process. As Redick was once revealed as the frontrunner, Reaves was asked about the rumors.

Earlier this month, Reaves sat with some reporters on a Zoom call to discuss the Good Good Midwest Open 2024. During the interview, the Lakers’ guard was asked about the development in the process of hiring the head coach. Reaves revealed that he has no news on the topic, but the star hopes to move in the direction of a championship with the new coach. 

I don't know when they're hiring a coach, so I'm right there with y'all on that news. But hopefully, we get somebody that comes to work every single day the way that we do ready to go try to win a championship.

Reaves was unaware of the coach at the time, but now the guard might be happy with the organization’s choice.
