JJ Redick’s Lakers coach role NOT a ‘whim’ job, says legendary Coach K
JJ Redick played for 15 seasons in the NBA.
JJ Redick
One of the most important moves made by the Los Angeles Lakers was appointing JJ Redick as the head coach of the team. The decision was the talk of the town as Redick had no coaching experience as such. Many even felt Redick was offered the job because of his friendship with LeBron James. Some even attributed it to the podcast the two had.
Amid all the drama, Mike Krzyzewski had something to say about Redick on the Jim Rome show. Krzyzewski as Redick’s college coach was seen defending him and even talked about the positive factors. He stated that Redick is really competitive and even has a great understanding of the game.
For me, JJ is amazingly competitive, and is prepared as well as any player that I coached at Duke. He’s smart, he’s confident and he understands the game and having 15 years of being a pro, he has empathy for the guy trying to make it when he’s trying to make and makes it, and for the veteran who is still trying to make it.Mike Krzyzewski via The Jim Rome Show
Krzyzewski is a well-respected coach and has led Duke to five national titles. Redick played under Krzyzewski and might put on some of his teachings in his coaching with the Lakers. There were also reports that the Lakers management took Krzyzewski’s opinion for coaching search. Redick certainly has one of the best basketball minds and will look to make some changes next season.
Fans would the young Los Angeles Lakers stars Dalton Knecht and Austin Reaves thriving under Redick’s coaching. The Lakers will certainly be hoping to make some noise next season after an early first-round in the playoffs.
JJ Redick admits the need of a big man for the Los Angeles Lakers
This offseason has not been what the Los Angeles Lakers were planning for. They lost many superstars like Klay Thompson, DeMar DeRozan, and Jonas Valanciunas to other teams. As such, the team desperately needed a big man center behind Anthony Davis. LeBron James was ready to take a pay cut for the team but the Laker management failed to add a star.
Last season the Lakers lacked a reliable center and Davis was backed up by stars like Jaxson Hayes and Christian Wood.
You certainly have to look at what I think is actually a very good roster, a very balanced roster. We’d love to, we tried, but we’d love to, at some point, get another five man, a big bruising five man.JJ Redick via SiriusXMNBA
The Lakers badly wanted Valenciunas but failed to lure him and will hope to land a center as soon as possible. The Lakers will be entering the next season with almost the same squad and may have a tough time in the Western Conference.
