Houston legend Hakeem Olajuwon and JJ Watt

The NCAA men’s basketball tournament saw Cooper Flagg and his Duke Blue Devils ended their tournament early to the Houston Cougars. The nail-biting Final Four bout saw the latter edge their way to the NCAA Championship game.

The Houston Cougars will play in an NCAA Championship game for the first time since 1984. Back then, they had made it to two straight championship games but lost both. NBA legend Hakeem Olajuwon was the leader of those two teams but could not win a title over stacked teams from NC State and Georgetown.

YouTube video

The NBA Hall of Famer was present to watch his alma mater return to the championship game. He was as ecstatic as any Cougars fan would be and wanted to celebrate with the team. But a video clip surfaced which revealed that NCAA security stopped him from stepping foot on the court.

Someone was seen vouching for Olajuwon, but the security personnel was not buying it. There have been several instances of fans running on to the court and potentially injuring players. Maybe that’s why they wanted to play it safe and only allowed those who were on their list.

This clip went viral as Hakeen Olajuwon is one of the reasons the Houston Cougars became a powerhouse program. He played a major hand in it and should have been allowed on the court. At least that is what fans and another Houston sporting legend felt.

Houston Texans legend calls out NCAA for Hakeem Olajuwon treatment

This season, no Cinderella team caught their eye as the top programs reached the final stages as was expected. But everyone expected Cooper Flagg and the Duke Blue Devils to win. But the Houston Cougars showed a fight that helped them turn the game around and win in the final few minutes.

This win was reminiscent of how Hakeen Olajuwon and his Houston Rockets won two NBA titles. Considering what he has meant for the city of Houston, another Houston legend, JJ Watt had this to say about the NCAA.

C’monnnnn Man. You let The Dream on the court. What are we doing here…

JJ Watt wrote

The Houston Texans great was appalled that NCAA security did not let Olajuwon on to the court. There is no one who has been more impactful for the city of Houston than the NBA Hall of Famer. JJ Watt’s words suggest he would have preferred if the NCAA was a bit more lenient when handling such matters.

NCAA should keep this in mind if Houston Cougars win natty

The Houston Cougars will face the Florida Gators for the NCAA championship. The Gators won against the hot-handed Auburn Tigers, which means they will be a formidable threat to win it all. The Cougars will have a battle on their hands knowing the Gators have a solid team.

The Gators have won two championships in 2006, 07. Therefore, they could have a lot of help giving them inputs on how to do it. The Cougars do not have that luxury, but if their will to win carries on, they could come away victorious.

If they can pull out another upset just like they did to Duke, they will win the first national championship of their program’s history. If that happens, hopefully JJ Watt’s message reaches the NCAA. They have to let Hakeem Olajuwon celebrate with his alma mater on the court.

He might not be an integral part of that victory, but it will be the culmination what he started more than four decades ago. Moreover, there might not be anyone more thrilled for his alma mater as The Dream himself.
