JJ Watt straight out came to Jude Bellingham’s defense. The retired NFL pass-rusher gave a stern reply to an online troll who wrongfully criticized the England National Soccer team player.

Following the 94th-minute equalizer against the Slovak in the round of 16, Bellingham became the savior of England. They eventually went on to win the game in extra time through Harry Kane who scored the fastest goal in ET at any Euros’.

However, a Twitter war had erupted in the meantime. After former Houston Texans linebacker JJ Watt praised Bellingham for his spectacular bicycle kick, one of his followers attempted to undermine the goal by pointing out the Real Madrid man’s underwhelming tournament.

Watt fired back immediately,

Man scores a bicycle kick in the 95th minute when the squad needed it most to literally save their tournament and still catches hate. Gotta love social media.

Watt is correct from his viewpoint but England’s performance in the 2024 Euros has been lackluster. Gareth Southgate’s men barely made it out of Group C, with one win and 2 draws from three games, scoring one and conceding one.

Considering the season Bellingham had with Real, winning the UEFA Champions League and being nominated for the best young athlete of the year, his performance in the white of England hasn’t been up to the mark.

Southgate plays him through the middle, just behind Kane as the false No. 10. This strategy is usually has been very effective in the past but not in the current tournament.

The opposition coach always surrounds Bellingham with multiple defenders, making it hard for him to get clear. Slovakia applied the same method, keeping him silent for 90 minutes. However, a moment of brilliance from the 21-year-old was enough to secure a passage to the last eight.

Jude Bellingham and England looking to win the Euros

Only Germany, Italy, Spain, and France have won both the World Cup and the Euros. The English on the other hand tasted international success way back in 1966 when Bobby Charlton lifted the famous WC at home. However, England has yet to win a European trophy.

After securing the win over Slovakia on Sunday, Bellingham’s teammate Conner Gallagher spoke with FOX Sports and made intentions clear that they are in Germany to win the tournament.

We've got a lot of character in the squad we showed that in winning the game. We need to keep that going to win the tournament and we need to play better as well. But the character is there and that is a massive factor. Jude is a world-class player and [obviously one of our best —] and the goal tonight was unbelievable.
Conner Gallagher said

England will face Switzerland in the Round of 8. The dominant Swiss knocked out the defending champions Italy in the last round.
