JK Dobbins was the odd man out after the Los Angeles Chargers signed Najee Harris and drafted former UNC rusher Omarion Hampton. Dobbins decided to leave the Chargers and sign for divisional rivals, the Denver Broncos.

It has barely been two days since Dobbins moved to Denver and still doesn’t know the name of the cooking lady, but the former second-rounder feels something different in the air. He spoke with the media on Thursday after penning a one-year, $5.25 million deal with the Broncos and immediately threw his former team under the bus.

I don’t want to just beat the [Los Angeles] Chargers… I want to get a ring. Because I’ve been in the playoffs every year I’ve played. So, I’m tired of losing in them. So, that’s my goal—to bring a Super Bowl to the city and just be a blessing to the community as well.

JK Dobbins said as per Will Peterson of Denver Sports.com

Dobbins assumed the role of RB1 at LA in 2024. He’s likely to take most of the snaps as the main back in Denver after they allowed Javonte Williams to sign with the Cowboys early in the off-season.

JK Dobbins revealed that joining the Broncos was a no-brainer

Dobbins entered free agency after his one-year deal with the Chargers ended. Sean Payton and the Broncos identified the 26-year-old as a good fit for their backfield.

Reporters asked Dobbins about his motivation for joining the Broncos, and he swiftly pointed to Payton as one of the primary reasons.

Coach Sean Payton… I know I’m going to get coached well here.

JK Dobbins told ESPN’s Jeff Legwold

He praised the Broncos’ offensive line and second-year quarterback Bo Nix.

The defense is really good—like, super good. The quarterback is amazing. I like the [running backs] room as well. The O-line is amazing, too. It was a no-brainer.

Dobbins added

The pair of Nik Bonito and Zach Allen racked up a combined 22.0 sacks in 2024, while DB Patrick Surtain II took home the Defensive Player of the Year award. A great defense is the heart and soul of a team, but Dobbins’ concern is making the offense tick, especially on the ground.

The Broncos averaged 112.2 yards per game, the 16th best in the league. Coincidentally, they were only one place above the Chargers with 110.7 yards per game, but scored seven fewer touchdowns.

Dobbins posted his best career stats while leading the line for the Chargers. He rushed 195 times in 13 games for 905 yards (4.6 yards per carry) and 9 rushing touchdowns.

At Denver, he will share snaps with RJ Harvey, Audric Estime, and Jaleel McLaughlin. Despite the loaded room, none of them come close to Dobbins’ ability to run the ball in pressure situations.

Dobbins entered the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens. However, he failed to leave a mark due to injuries. His four-year stint in Baltimore ended with just over 1300 yards and 12 touchdowns from 24 games.

The Broncos will heavily rely on their young quarterback, Nix. He completed over 4000 combined yards and 33 touchdowns, cementing himself as a dual-threat signal-caller. The Broncos will play the Chargers in week three in LA.
