Surging Joaquin Buckley’s next key bout is a pivotal five-round event headliner against a former champ. However, Buckley has been diverting attention to Ian Garry as well. All through fight week (ahead of UFC on ESPN 66), he tried inserting himself into Garry’s crosshairs. That would be a good thing, too, if Joaquin Buckley is actually able to get through Ian Garry after he keeps his name in the running.

Buckley is a proper 2024 season breakout story whose challenges kept upgrading throughout. Meanwhile, the Irishman very recently scrapped for the 170-pound top contender spot against Shavkat Rakhmonov. Buckley has all the aspirations to overtake Garry for that prestige and was to meet him once before; the only deterrent, however, is his wife.

New UFC Kansas City fan weigh-ins footage has Garry’s wife, Layla Anna-Lee, step in to break up Buckley from starting a live banter. Anna-Lee, a sports presenter herself, handed over Garry’s child, only to block out ‘New Mansa’ from sharing a dialogue during the weigh-ins. All through last year, Layla Anna-Lee was under heavy scrutiny for her satirical piece on modern-day WAGs.

Buckley himself, along with other unhinged peers, slammed her and Garry for it, and for (allegedly) living with her ex-husband – Garry’s MMA nutritionist. The Irishman’s wife herself had to make several reels online to dumb down the backlash based on unheralded claims.

Hence, the sports presenter knew to be on guard and where a potent trash-talk against Garry would go. While she did stop a confrontation (🎥: @Newmansa94), Buckley did later run his mouth about Garry’s win.

Joaquin Buckley does not vibe with Ian Garry’s ‘trash’ UFC Kansas victory over dangerous Carlos Prates

Ian Machado Garry is now 9-1 UFC and dark horse contender to win the welterweight gold. Garry overcame a late scare to defeat Carlos Prates by unanimous decision in Saturday’s T-Mobile Center headliner in Kansas City, Mo. Before that, he had a steady running against divisional boogeyman Rakhmonov.

The Irishman had proper spatial control throughout the encounter until he faced a reversal on the ground and was the recipient of some hard ground and pound late in R5. It was too little, too late as Prates tried to swarm in for a finish, but Garry recovered well. Joaquin Buckley, though, was not impressed.

I think it was trash, …I really think Ian Garry had the potential to really put it on Prates, but he tried to play it safe the whole time, tried to keep from getting knocked out. Obviously, we’ve seen that Prates, in that fifth round, he was trying to get to him, and he turned Ian Garry into a booty boy – my man trying to wrestle, my man trying to hold on for dear life. But I feel like Ian Garry played himself.

‘The Future’ has also been tabbed as the PPV title backup for UFC 315 between champ Belal Muhammad and challenger Jack Della Maddalena. So, a run-up and attaching his name to Garry is a good template now. However, the Team Murcielago MMA welterweight wasn’t impressed.

Conversely, when asked about it in the post-fight conference, Garry dumbed down the criticism. The Irishman had previously ignored his trash talk as well, saying he barely ‘spoke English.’ New Mansa didn’t take the offense to heart and later said he wanted to move on to his next challenge: Kamaru Usman.
