Tyler Bass’ recent kick attempt is a contender for the top 10 worst misses of the season, maybe even of all time. The Buffalo Bills kicker had the opportunity to further increase his team’s lead, but wasted it.
Midway through the second quarter, Josh Allen found Mack Hollins for an 8-yard touchdown to take the lead on the night against divisional rivals the New York Jets, who earlier scored a touchdown through Garrett Wilson.
After Hollins’ touchdown, the Bills opted for a one-point conversion instead of a two. Sean McDermott sent Tyler Bass onto the field to score the points as the Jets special teams lined up to stop him from doing so.
Bass measured the distance and kicked the ball, which spun at least 10 yards away from the goalpost. ESPN’s Monday Night Football announcer Joe Buck mimicked what was probably going on in the viewers’ minds.
When the production team replayed Bass’ miss, fans noticed a minute detail that Buck and everyone else overlooked.
Why did Joe Buck seem so mad at that Tyler Bass.

After the ball left the ground, it took a slight deflection off Jets defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw, changing the direction of the kick. While there’s no guarantee that the extra point effort was going in before the nudge, it definitely played a part in Bass missing the target.
Tyler Bass’ miss once cost the Bills an AFC title game
Bass is among the top kickers operating in the NFL. However, the 27-year-old has had his fair share of crucial misses during his tenure in the league, but none more bared a heavy burden than the miss in the 2023 AFC divisional playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Bass had a successful 2023 season in which he was crowned the AFC Special Team’s player. Fans erased his contributions in the regular season instantly after he missed the game-winning field goal from 44 yards against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The windy weather played a big part in the outcome, but that did not stop social media from hounding the former Georgia Southern player. He had to go rogue for a few days after allegedly receiving death threats.
Josh Allen silenced all the critics by backing his kicker.
Bass so far has converted 16 field goals (including extra point tries before the miss against the Jets). The longest FG he scored was 50 yards.
