Ahead of the 2025 MLB season, a big name is returning for a brief stint. Veteran announcer Joe Buck will be joining the broadcasting booth for the Opening Day of the season. He will be calling the Opening game between the New York Yankees and the Milwaukee Brewers.

Buck last called an MLB-televised game during the 2021 World Series while working for Fox Sports. He would later join ESPN after covering 24 World Series for his previous employees. He did appear with Chip Caray last year on a local broadcast of a St. Louis Cardinals game.

The 55-year-old joined ESPN in 2022 and signed a $75 million contract. Though he will continue to call Monday Night Football with Troy Aikman, he is excited to make a return to the baseball broadcasting booth.

He will be joined by YES Network analyst and former Yankees manager Joe Girardi and the Brewers’ analyst Bill Schroeder to call the Yankees-Brewers game on Thursday, March 27 at 3 p.m. Eastern Time.

Buck would later take to his X account to react to this development. He would drop a hilarious reason for why he was returning and expressed his excitement for it.

Only doing this because I missed the “why do you hate the Yankees” shots on twitter (it was twitter then) and add the Brewers fans who think I don’t like Milwaukee or the Packers or cheese. Both sides are WRONG. Anyway, it’s gonna be fun. Can’t wait actually. Saddle up!

Joe Buck returning to a baseball broadcasting booth in 2025 was probably not on the bingo cards of many. As per reports from The Athletic, Buck was intrigued to return to work as an announcer at baseball games again. However, when he learned that he would be calling the game for the Yankees at the Yankee Stadium, he was fully sold.

The Yankee Stadium is one of the venues where Buck has called several World Series games in his career. So it was hard for him to turn down such a big chance to return to an iconic venue.

It’s fun. It is exciting to think about doing the game at Yankee Stadium, where I’ve called World Series. I’m not saying that if it wasn’t the Yankees, I probably wouldn’t have done it, but that might be true. It’s the Yankees at home on Opening Day against a division winner.

Joe Buck said as per The Athletic

The MLB fans on social media have been left excited by this news. Some even seemed to have changed their opinions on him following his absence.

Jomboy Media’s Max Mannis seemed happy with the return of the Buck and claimed he would do anything for him to regularly call baseball games.

Hating Joe Buck is one of the biggest 180s I’ve ever done on a sports take. Said I couldn’t stand him when I was a kid, because that’s what everyone said. Now I’d do anything for him to call baseball regularly again.

Speaking about the Yankees, they will enter the Opening Day as the American League Champions. After losing in the World Series last year, they will be hoping to do one better this year and try to end their World Series drought.
