Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow, who is counted among the top quarterbacks in the NFL, has already faced his share of challenges, as his short NFL career has been plagued by injuries. He is currently recovering from a severe season-ending wrist injury suffered last season.

In fact, his debut season with the Bengals was cut short after he suffered a torn ACL, and the recovery wasn’t easy. However, the tougher part for him wasn’t the physical recovery but the mental stress it caused.

The Bengals quarterback recently opened up about how the multiple injuries suffered by him in his five-year football career had an adverse effect on his mental health. He labeled it a “challenge” while speaking to the media after Tuesday’s mandatory minicamp.

Whenever the injuries start to stack up your football mortality kind of comes into the back of your mind. So, that’s definitely something I’ve thought about and something I have had to fight through. That is every injury that happens. They stack and you continue to think about how you can get better from those and how you can come back an improved player when maybe you aren’t getting the reps you had because of your injuries. It’s always a challenge, it always is. But I’m built for it.

Joe Burrow’s bitter history with injuries

Despite suffering multiple injuries in the last five years, Burrow is still fighting through it and intends to persevere from all those injuries. In his rookie year, he experienced Grade 3 tears in his ACL, MCL, and PCL, along with a torn meniscus. This required extensive rehab, causing him to miss the rest of his rookie season.

Just 11 days before the 2021 season, Burrow returned from rehab and rejoined the Bengals. However, later in December, he dislocated his pinky finger but fortunately didn’t have to miss any games. In January 2022, he experienced a Grade 1 knee strain and had to sit out one and a half games, and he strained his knee again during the Super Bowl game.

Last season, he missed most of the training camp after suffering a calf strain on his right leg. Burrow didn’t miss any game till week 11 when he tore a ligament in his right wrist which benched him for the final six games and the Bengals missed the playoffs.
