Cincinnati Bengals fans know they have a terrific quarterback in Joe Burrow. To aid him, there is probably one of the best wide receiver tandems in the league. However, that was not enough to make it to the playoffs last season, leaving those fans hoping this time it would be different.

The offseason distractions on the defensive side of the ball were adding to those worries, but they sorted that matter out just in time, ensuring Trey Hendrickson was part of the team.

On the other hand, the franchise’s lack of investments to reinforce the offensive line with elite talent left fans wondering if it was enough to keep Burrow upright.

In their season-opener against the Cleveland Browns, the star quarterback was pressured 18 times, finally bringing him down three times. All that pressure restricted Burrow to just 113 passing yards.

The hope was that they would fare better against the Jacksonville Jaguars, as every team has to shake off rust. Joe Burrow seemed to be getting close to surpassing his week 1 total after throwing for 76 yards and one touchdown in the 7 minutes he was on the field.

On the next snap, the Jaguars threw everybody at the LSU great, which prompted him to try to slither his way out of potential sacks. After trying his luck to the left, he reversed back, only for Jaguars defensive tackle Arik Armstead to grab onto Burrow’s right foot to try and bring him down.

He was successful as the quarterback sat on the field, grabbing his left leg, and was then helped off the field. Soon, it was revealed that Joe Burrow suffered a Grade 3 turf toe injury.

Joe Burrow’s 3-month injury layoff triggers fans

The problem with an injury of that severity is that Joe Burrow will need surgery to heal. If he goes through with that, he will be forced to sit out for at least three months.

If the injury does not heal in time, he could effectively miss out on the season. There is no clear confirmation on what direction the 28-year-old will take, but surgery seems to be the best option for him to continue playing at this level.

Cincinnati Bengals fans were going through the emotions on social media, frustrated that they are not getting a break. They had hoped to see more of his elite skills this season, now that his top 2 receivers were tied down for the future.

Instead, those fans might have to wait until next season unless backup QB Jake Browning can will them to the playoffs. Knowing it is unlikely, fans took to social media to express their frustrations, examples of which are listed below.

After Browning took over, he led the Bengals to a close 31-27 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, he would have to thank the officials for slapping a pass interference call on rookie Travis Hunter.

Bengals’ season in jeopardy with Joe Burrow out

The problem with backup quarterbacks is that not everyone has a great time playing the starter role after being a backup throughout their career. In Jake Browning’s case, fans hope he at least returns to his 2023 form when he filled in for Joe Burrow.

In that 7-game stretch, Browning led the league in completion percentage. However, the franchise struggled to a 4-3 record. This season, if he can bring about a similar level of performance, they could fare better.

That is still a big ‘IF’, as there is no doubt that their chances with Joe Burrow would have been much higher. Now, there is a risk of the Bengals missing out on the postseason for the third straight season since losing to the Chiefs in the 2022 AFC Championship game.
