Joe Flacco met a familiar foe in the form of Aaron Rodgers in his second game as the Cincinnati Bengals quarterback. Dubbed the “Icy-Hot Bowl’ and the “Unc Bowl” due to the seniority of the two players, the game promised to be a blockbuster. And it was.
Despite starting the game as massive underdogs, the Bengals pulled off a 33-31 victory over their divisional rivals. Flacco threw 31 completions from 47 pass attempts for 342 yards (65.9% completion), 3 touchdowns, zero interceptions, and a 115.77 quarterback rating.
Speaking with SportsCenter after the final whistle, Flacco revealed that he jokingly told Rodgers that he had never beaten him prior to Thursday night’s victory.
It was a lot of fun to go against Aaron today— The Steelers, I’ve played them so much, they’re such a familiar foe. I told Aaron after the game, I don’t think I’ve ever beat him head-to-head. That was a lot of fun to be able to get that done today.

Flacco certainly has a sharp memory because Aaron Rodgers was indeed 3-0 heading into the game at Paycor Stadium. He had faced the Steelers on several occasions in the past. In fact, the recent win marked his 12th victory against the Pittsburgh franchise (most of those wins came while starting as QB1 for the Baltimore Ravens, and his overall record against the Steelers is 12-11 as per StateMuse).
Cleveland Radio host calls out the Browns after a monumental performance from Joe Flacco
Mike Tomlin said something interesting before he led the Steelers into Cincinnati that attracted a lot of attention from all corners. The veteran Steelers head coach questioned Browns general manager Andrew Berry‘s decision to trade Flacco to a division rival while choosing to rely on rookie quarterbacks to bail his Cleveland team out.

The experiment hasn’t worked so far. With Dillon Gabriel under center, the Browns are winless in two games. In the meantime, Flacco is 1-1 in Cincy and has thrown for over 550 yards, 5 touchdowns, and zero turnovers.
Flacco’s performance against the Steelers proved he’s more than capable of winning games with the right pieces around him. Cleveland fans knew that all along, but the memo did not reach the Browns’ front office.
As the Browns languish at the bottom of the pile in the AFC, Cleveland radio host Tony Rizzo lashed out at the Browns organization, particularly at Berry, for getting rid of their best quarterback.
How could you do that, Andrew? How could you do it? Why on Earth did you feel the need to trade this guy to a division opponent for a fifth-round draft pick? Fireable offense. I wanna know how much longer the owner’s gonna watch this crap?
Tony Rizzo screamed over the mic during The Tony Rizzo Show

Rizzo only channeled the frustrations the Browns fans have endured over the years. It’s not a dig at Gabriel or even Shedeur Sanders, but there’s no substitute for experience. Flacco has that in abundance, which he showed in the Steelers’ win.
The Bengals traded away a fifth-round draft pick to acquire Flacco after suffering a string of losses with Jake Browning calling the shots from under center. Even though Browning wasn’t too pleased with the development, he only had himself to blame for losing his position as the starter. The Washington graduate had thrown 5 interceptions compared to 4 touchdowns across the three losses, which he started as the lead quarterback.
For now, Flacco is the main guy in Cincinnati until Joe Burrow completes his rehab. Sporting News reported that the two-time Comeback Player of the Year could make a return around Week 16.
