Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Joe Kelly has taken another shot at Aaron Boone. This time, his words comes after the New York Yankees manager took a swipe at him and slammed his for his lack of ‘class’ after the World Series.

The Dodgers and the Yankees met in the 2024 World Series which resulted in the former beating the latter in 5 games. After the win, Joe Kelly and his teammate Miguel Rojas would make some bold comments regarding the Bronx Bombers.

Kelly would claim that the Dodgers-Yankees matchup was a “mismatch from the get-go” and expressed that their opponents were probably the “eighth or ninth best team” in the postseason. He would also point out the sloppy plays of the Yankees throughout the series especially in Game 5.

The Game 5 between the Dodgers and the Yankees saw a huge collapse from the Bronx Bombers after they had a 5-0 lead. Captain Aaron Judge‘s dropped catch was followed by another fielding error from Anthony Volpe as his throw to Jazz Chisholm Jr. bounced away. Later, pitcher Gerrit Cole and 1st baseman Anthony Rizzo would fail to cover the first base.

A few days ago, Boone was asked about these comments from Kelly during the Spring Training. While taking aim at the former Dodgers pitcher, Boone claimed that the Yankees will have more class than them if they win the World Series.

Kelly has now fired back at him. In an appearance at the Baseball Isn’t Boring podcast, the 36-year-old claimed that he (Boone) is ‘hurt’ by his comments.

He’s just so hurt. It’s so sad. When your fearless leader has fear, it’s a little tough to see. Feelings are hurt.

Is Joe Kelly considering retirement ahead of 2025 season?

After winning a second World Series ring with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2024, Joe Kelly would become a free agent. Since then he has remained unsigned. With the Spring Training underway, his future is looking a bit dark with questions of potential retirement popping up in the minds of some people.

During his appearance at the Baseball Isn’t Boring podcast, Kelly would speak on this matter as well. At the moment, the relief pitcher is not a 100 percent due to his injuries. As a result of this he is unsure about his baseball future.

I’m not 100 percent yet. I want to see if I get to 100 percent… We’ll see. And if I don’t, then f*** it. But I want to get there first.

Kelly would miss the postseason run of the Dodgers due to a shoulder injury. He had also missed the first two months of the 2024 season due to this same injury.

In 35 appearances for the Dodgers in 2024, Kelly went 1-1 with a high ERA of 4.78. He though gave just 31 hits and stuck out 35 batters in 32 innings. If he is unable to get back to a 100 percent, he might hang up his gloves this season.
