Joe Lauzon

UFC Lightweight Joe Lauzon has been long enough around the world’s biggest MMA promotion to know a thing or two about why fighters react the way they react to a situation, both in and out of the Octagon. Lauzon a professional since 2004, has been with the UFC since 2006, and throughout his entire career, has fought the likes of Jorge Masvidal, Rafael Assuncao, Jim Miller, Anthony Pettis, Al Iaquinta, Clay Guida and many more.

In his return after more than 2 and a half years of layoff, Lauzon is going to face another UFC legend like him in ‘Cowboy’ Donald Cerrone. The fight happens at UFC 274 headlined by a lightweight title clash between the reigning defending champion Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje.

Lauzon was recently asked about his thoughts on the Cerrone fight, and an interesting issue on UFC fighter pay which has been a critical topic of discussion across the MMA community for ages but is a hot debate like never before now because of its discussion by names like Jake Paul themselves. In response to it, Lauzon was asked if a fighter’s union is ever possible to combat the situation.

“I don’t think so,” Lauzon told MMA Fighting. “Francis Ngannou is fighting the UFC, but he’s not fighting to get the other fighters more money, he’s fighting to get himself more money. That’s just the way it goes. Francis Ngannou has been, ‘I have done this, I have the title, I want these things for me.’ He’s not saying he wants this for the other guys.

It’s kind of a selfish stance when people take it on, they fight, and they argue, and it’s never, ‘Everyone needs to get paid more.’ There are a couple of people who would do that, but it’s never the guys near the top. Generally, it’s the people that try to get up to the UFC, got to the UFC, but maybe they didn’t do well, and then on their way out, they’re complaining about it after the fact.” [h/t MMA Fighting]
