Joe Mazzulla hilariously admits to only ‘mumbling’ with Jaylen Brown over injury conversation

Joe Mazzulla and Jaylen Brown

On Wednesday night, the Boston Celtics fell to the Golden State Warriors 118–112 at TD Garden. It was their second defeat of the season. Reigning Finals MVP Jaylen Brown missed his third consecutive game due to a hip issue. Brown is one of the most influential players on the Celtics’ side, alongside superstar Jayson Tatum.

With Brown missing another game, the media questioned Celtics HC Joe Mazzulla regarding his availability in the upcoming matchups. The Celtics need Brown’s contribution to defeat tough opponents. Instead of getting an update on Brown’s status, the head coach had a hilarious exchange with the reporters.

I talk to him every day. We both kind of mumble when we talk and we just shake hands and move on.

Mazzulla further claimed that he could not understand Brown when questioned about his hip injury. In addition, Mazzulla is known for his unusual press conferences in the past as well. Fans always burst a laugh after watching Mazzulla deal with the press.

Mazzula also claimed that Brown has been working ‘day-to-day’ and will soon return to the court for the Celtics. The 2024 NBA Finals MVP will play a crucial role this season if the Celtics were to defend their 2023 NBA title. As per reports, Brown may finally return to action on Friday against the Brooklyn Nets.

Joe Mazzulla had nothing but ‘praise’ for star man Jayson Tatum

Despite Jaylen Brown missing the Boston Celtics’ most recent game against the Warriors, his teammate Jayson Tatum continued his positive showing. Joe Mazzulla was left impressed with his star man’s performance against a tough side in the league.

I thought he did great. I thought he just gave the game what it needed, whether it was passing, whether it was screening, whether it was finishing. I mean, [he shot] 50% from the field, 50% from three, I thought he took on the challenge of the physicality, and changed up how he was attacking, and found his teammates and made shots when he needed to.

After the game, Joe Mazzulla said

Through nine games this season, Tatum, a native of St. Louis, has averaged 30 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 6.5 assists. Those figures are sufficient to advance his “revenge tour” and qualify him for MVP consideration. However, Tatum has stated that he is more inclined toward his team winning regularly rather than winning personal accolades.
