The Boston Bruins’ sudden firing of head coach Jim Montgomery took the sports world by surprise. While the team did have a slow start recording an 8-9-3 score, the relieving move enraged the whole NHL.

The news even spread out of the ice hockey world as Boston Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla reacted to it. Mazzulla and Montgomery are well acquainted and the news of his firing came as a jolt to the basketball coach.

Mazzulla stated how this was something hard to see despite knowing that circumstances like this remain common in the sports world. He further added that it was “tough stuff” to hear but didn’t really want to dive into his coaching method.

I talked to him a couple of times. It’s tough. I talked to him a few times and I like watching the games but I didn’t really dive deep into his coaching philosophy and stuff like that. You hate to see a coach have to go through that but we all get hired to get fired.

During his 2 years in Boston, Mazzulla had the chance to catch up with Jim Montgomery a couple of times. Not only in the NHL, but Joe Mazzulla has also made acquaintances with Boston Red Sox’s manager Alex Cora, and the New England Patriots Jerod Mayo and Bill Belichick.

For the time being, the Boston Bruins GM Don Sweeney has announced that assistant coach Joe Sacco will fulfill the role. They will later finalize the head coach position as they move on with the 2024-25 season.

Paul Bissonnette reacts to Jim Montgomery’s sudden relief of duty

Former NHL player Paul Bissonnette did not mince his words as he noted how an era ended with Jim Montgomery getting fired. Montgomery’s stint with the team ended in three seasons. During his time, he led the Bruins to two playoff appearances although the Florida Panthers demolished them each time.

Montgomery seems to be the first casualty from the 2024-25 coach firing stance. He was well-loved in the NHL and respected by the players. Montgomery during his time in Boston never hesitated to voice his frustration against players including captain Brad Marchand, and other veterans.

The Bruins are officially dead. We did it. End of an era.

Fans are absolutely livid as the Bruins decided to fire Jim Montgomery. Many questioned how GM Don Sweeney and President Cam Neely should also be the ones to get fired next. What picture the Bruins will paint with their new staff change is yet to be seen.
