Joe Mixon was shocked after hearing that the NFL asked him to pay a $25,000 fine. His shock turned into disappointment when he realized the reasons behind the fine.

According to the Houston Texans running back, the NFL fined him for criticizing the referee for biased officiating during their AFC Divisional loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Why play the game if every 50/50 call goes with Chiefs? These officials are trash and bias.

Mixon allegedly said.

Mixon tweeted that he never said the above lines and the NFL made a mistake.

I’m getting fined by the NFL for what someone else said. What’s next? I get fined by them for Connor McDavid cross checking an opponent on a NHL game.

SI.com initially quoted Mixon with the statement, and the NFL clearly categorized it as stepping out of his boundaries. The 28-year-old did take a dig at the officials but his statement was very different for he might have to pay a fine for it, which wasn’t mentioned in the fine letter.

Everybody know how it’s playing up here. You can never leave it in the refs’ hands. The whole world can see.

Joe Mixon said.

The statement SI.com quoted was a tweet posted by former NFL wide receiver TJ Houshmandzadeh.

Joe Mixon received a second fine from the NFL

It’s nothing unusual for players to receive fines from the NFL. However, it rarely happens that they are asked to pay a fine for something they didn’t even do or say.

If NFL executives are reading articles to flag someone for a fine then they have had to come across the 2x Pro Bowler’s tweet, pointing out their mistake. Ironically, Mixon shared that the NFL apparently fined him for a second time because of the earlier tweet.

So let me get this straight. NFL fines me 25k for something I didn’t even say. Call them out for it, and they response was fine me AGAIN for something that’s not even a violation without even rescinding the first one. Where’s the accountability? Just respect the players. Cold World.

Mixon wasn’t the only Texans player to criticize the officiating in the Chiefs game. Defensive end Will Anderson Jr. lashed out at the referee after they flagged him on a roughing the passer call.

We knew it was going to be us against the refs going into this game. I was just telling them, like, man, we gotta go out there and do much better. In some instances we didn’t do that, in some instances we did.

Will Anderson Jr. said.

Even head coach DeMeco Ryans wasn’t particularly pleased with the referee.

When I say everybody, I mean everybody. The naysayers, the doubt. Everybody we had to go against again today. Going into this game knowing what we were up against, we can’t make the mistakes we made.

DeMeco Ryans said.

Regardless, the Texans lost the game 14-23 and have to try again next season.
