On Thursday, NFL Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Houston Texans RB Joe Mixon will not return for the season. Mixon, who’s sustained a foot injury in the offseason, was placed on the Reserve or Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list ahead of the season and hasn’t started a single game so far.

Mixon, however, wasn’t having any of it. The 29-year-old from Oakley responded to the claims made in the report and disputed the notion that he won’t be playing this season. In a post on X, Mixon asked Rapoport about his source of information and warned the fans about clickbait articles that are fed into people’s feed through algorithms. Mixon wrote on X:

I’m just curious, Ian, how do you know more about me than me?

He also named his agent, Peter Schaffer in the post. The tag was ambiguous and it lead to two different observations: either he wanted his agent to get doing something about the report or he wanted to chide the man for leaking information to the Insider.

Meanwhile, Schaffer was even more cryptic with his take. He retweeted the post with a quote saying, “The truth and what comes out of his mouth is mere coincidence.” However, it’s more likely that the agent was trolling Rapoport and claiming that Rapoport so often that whenever he tells the truth, it’s purely by accident.

The severity and the background of Mixon’s injury have been a mystery so far, making a prediction about his return quite a difficult task. The slightest confirmed update that the fans have is a statement made by the Houston Texans‘ GM a few days ago.

However, Nick Caserio didn’t slip up on any details. Nonetheless, he hinted that the player’s injury hasn’t fully vanished, while noting that they are working on it. Caserio said on SportsRadio 610’s Payne & Pendergast:

It’s just a very gray situation. Joe’s worked at it and there are times when he’s made progress, and other times when the progress just kind of stalled there a little bit.

The Houston Texans are bouncing back after the slow start

The Houston Texans defeated the Buffalo Bills, led by the reigning NFL MVP, Josh Allen, who suffered his first loss on a Thursday. The Texans started the season slowly with three straight losses, their first-ever 0-3 start since the 2020 season.

They picked up two wins against the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens before the bye week. The Texans headed into the bye week with a 2-3 record and had a 4-2 record coming off the bye. They even avenged a Week 3 loss to division rivals Jacksonville Jaguars, in Week 10.

With the win against the Bills on Thursday, the Texans are 6-5 and one step closer to claiming one of the playoff spots. With a resurging squad, it’s no wonder Joe Mixon would love to come back and be a part of a historic feat.

The Texans are now eighth in the conference behind the Jaguars, who have the same number of wins but played one game less. With their starter, CJ Stroud, set to return in Week 13, the Texans are expected to strengthen their offense as well. The Texans face the division leaders Indianapolis Colts, in that game.

Meanwhile, the Texan defense is one of the best in the league, if not the best already. They have a star-studded line that has proven their worth over and over again. The Texans lead the league in fewest yards allowed per game (264.3) and points allowed (16.5).

They also have the third-most sacks among any franchise (33). In the last game against the Bills, the Texans were able to sack Allen eight times, his most in any game. They also have the second-best turnover ratio in the league, just behind the Chicago Bears.
