The Mr. Irrelevant of 2022, Brock Purdy, has shown up for the San Francisco 49ers in the past two years. Purdy, who had his breakout in his career start shocking Tom Brady, has led the Niners to two consecutive post-seasons.
Despite his success, Purdy has been criticized by pundits and detractors. The common element of the criticism is Purdy is only successful because of the core team around him. The comments have resurged monumentally after the Niners started 2-2 after four weeks this season.
Amid the berating, Purdy has been backed by many as well. Earlier, his teammate Nick Bosa spoke in an interview about how they are lucky to have him in their team. Bosa also made a point to reflect on Purdy’s breakout game proving the whole world wrong about his talent.
Former 49-ers legend and four-time Super Bowl-winning champion Joe Montana is the latest to back up Purdy and dismiss the allegations and comments. In a Friday interview with “Arrowhead Addict”, Montana pointed the questions back at the cynics.
I think part of what’s happening with Brock is that he went to a good team. Hey, he’s fortunate. You could say the same for the team Steve [Young] inherited when I left. He had all the weapons he needed…

The 68-year-old addressed that there are weapons around all the winning teams. He also addressed and pointed out that game manager is not a negative thing. Joe Montana added that all quarterbacks are game managers and need to be aware of when to take risks and play the field.
Kyle Shanahan gushes about Brock Purdy in a recent interview
Brock Purdy has the highest passer rating of any quarterback throughout their first 25 starts (112.6). He is ahead of reigning champion Patrick Mahomes and Hall of Famer Kurt Warner. In an interview with Greg Papa, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan praised his franchise QB for his consistency.

I don’t get what, there shouldn’t be any debate. He’s done it very consistently, as consistently as anyone. That’s what I see with my own eyes when I hear stats like that. It’s just even more confirmation with what we see.
Kyle Shanahan said
Shanahan pointed out Purdy’s first game against the Miami Dolphins when he came off the bench and put in a performance for the ages. He also nodded to the injury late in that year and came back stronger in the successive year.
Amongst the quarterbacks with four games so far, Brock Purdy is ranked second in total passing yards behind Seattle Seahawks’ Geno Smith. He also has the fourth-best QBR in the league. Heading into Santa Clara, Purdy and Niners look to derail one of the worst defenses in the league as they play the Arizona Cardinals.
