- Derrick Lewis will face Josh Hokit at the UFC White House event after initially not being booked.
- Joe Rogan was visibly stunned by Dana White's announcement of the fight, which was influenced by President Trump's request.
- Paulo Costa secured a TKO victory over Azamat Murzakanov and met Donald Trump post-fight, receiving praise for his performance.
After months of anticipation regarding the UFC White House event, the announcement of the fight card received mostly underwhelming reaction. This was because big names and fan favorites such as Conor McGregor or Jon Jones didn’t get booked to compete. Even before the announcement, one name was always rumored to fight on the card. He is none other than knockout artist Derrick Lewis.
Initially, Lewis didn’t get a fight to compete on the historic White House card. As everyone knows, things can change instantly in the MMA world. After putting on a stellar performance at UFC 327, polarizing Josh Hokit valiantly accepted his next fight booking. It turns out he will face Derrick Lewis at the White House event.
A viral video on the internet showcased Dana White talking to Joe Rogan and Daniel Cormier sometime after announcing the Lewis vs. Hokit bout. The UFC boss went live on social media from the Kaseya Center in Miami to announce the newly booked bout.
The reaction of Joe Rogan says it all. Everything happened quickly, from Trump asking for Lewis to be put on the card to Dana White taking initiative and booking the bout. The JRE podcast host couldn’t believe what had transpired in the arena and couldn’t keep his mouth shut for a few seconds upon hearing White’s side of the story.

US President Donald Trump specifically asked for ‘The Black Beast’ in the months leading up to the White House card announcement. In fact, Dana White was the one to reveal this bit to the media. However, when the final fight card was announced, Lewis was not part of it until Trump specifically asked for the inclusion of the all-time leader in knockout wins to be featured for the historic event.
Last year, Trump spoke to Lewis at UFC Nashville after he knocked out Tallison Teixeira when Dana White handed him the phone. This year, Lewis started the year with a loss against Waldo Cortes-Acosta at UFC 324. It was not his best performance, and he could be approaching his retirement from how the bout played out.
Josh Hokit presents another tough challenge for The Black Beast. The California native is undefeated in his career and had the best win of his career when he defeated Curtis Blaydes on the judges’ scorecards. Lewis will once again compete against a younger opponent in front of the US President who wanted him on the White House card. The stakes are very high for the three-round heavyweight bout.
Paulo Costa meets Donald Trump after spectacular UFC 327 victory
Paulo Costa has not been consistent since his loss to Israel Adesanya back in UFC 253. In the next four years, he only won a single fight, which came against ageing veteran Luke Rockhold. In 2024, he lost to Robert Whittaker and Sean Strickland. Most fans thought his career was done at that time. However, he forged a redemption arc in 2025 with a dominant victory over Roman Kopylov.

This year, the Brazilian star moved to the light heavyweight division and was challenged by undefeated contender Azamat Murzakanov at UFC 327. The Russian challenger was 16-0 heading into the bout with five finishes in the UFC. Most fans counted out Costa, believing it was Murzakanov’s time to shine. However, Costa dominated the bout and secured a third-round TKO win with a perfect head-kick.
After the bout, Costa hopped out of the octagon to meet Donald Trump, who was sitting alongside Dana White. The US President admitted that Costa was too good looking to be a fighter and congratulated him on his victory in a viral interaction.

Dana White also congratulated Costa for becoming the first fighter to hand Murzakanov a loss in his professional career. At this point, the Brazilian star might just need one more victory to secure a title shot in the light heavyweight division, considering Jiri Prochazka lost today and Alex Pereira no longer competes in the division.
