UFC 323 was the final pay-per-view event of 2025, and ESPN delivered dramatic moments that captivated global MMA fans. The event had several incredible and unpredictable fights that kept fans on their toes, creating excitement throughout the stacked card. However, the commentary, especially that of Joe Rogan, was largely criticized by MMA fans, who felt it lacked clarity and consistency.

In the main event of UFC 323, Merab Dvalishvili and Petr Yan waged a brutal, bloody war that entertained audiences. Bending expectations, the Russian managed to dominate the ‘Machine’ for most parts of the bout with relentless striking. After five challenging rounds, Yan was ultimately declared the winner and new champion via unanimous decision following sustained exchanges.

However, the commentary team, including Joe Rogan and Daniel Cormier, insisted the fight seemed closer than presented, drawing fan backlash. Many fans and experts criticized their assessments, arguing that such commentary diminished the bout’s clarity and failed to reflect competitive disparity properly.

Former UFC fighter Derek Brunson took to X and strongly criticized Rogan’s commentary, calling Yan’s dominant performance completely clinical throughout. Other than him, controversial MMA content creator The MMA Guru also mocked the commentary team, highlighting their mistake regarding the fight’s competitiveness.

I just watched back UFC 323 #UFC323 THAT WAS THE WORST COMMENTARY JOB I HAVE EVER HEARD WHAT THE (expletive) WERE ROGAN & DC WATCHING IN THE MAIN EVENT & YAPPING ABOUT DURING THE REST…DISGRACEFUL

Both reactions gained notable traction online, with many fans agreeing their criticisms accurately reflected widespread frustration surrounding the broadcast team. Longstanding criticism toward Rogan and Cormier resurfaced strongly, with fans arguing their mistakes frequently overshadow pivotal moments during UFC broadcasts.

DC often faces accusations of bias toward dominant Dagestani wrestlers, while Rogan receives backlash for repeatedly misrepresenting statistics throughout broadcasts. UFC 323 intensified concerns, demonstrating how inaccurate commentary can distort public perception and undermine appreciation for fighters delivering performances.

Fans now wonder whether the promotion will address commentary issues seriously and implement measures ensuring broadcasts maintain reliability.

Petr Yan talks about a rematch following a brutal war with Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 323

Petr Yan entered UFC 323 as the underdog, yet he surprised many by stunning Merab Dvalishvili with sharp and disciplined striking. Yan showcased exceptional takedown defense throughout the fight, refusing to let Dvalishvili impose relentless wrestling pressure and control dominant positions.

His precise and efficient jab repeatedly disrupted Dvalishvili’s rhythm, breaking his guard and causing significant damage that gradually shifted momentum favorably. The strikes eventually bloodied the former champion badly, forcing him backwards and preventing successful entries into grappling exchanges he dominates.

Yan’s composed veteran performance demonstrated refined strategic adjustments, allowing him to regain confidence and outperform expectations following a difficult championship setback. Following the win, the fighter was asked about a potential rematch, to which Yan immediately denied while giving his reasoning.

For me to get the opportunity to fight for the belt again, the UFC made me go three more fights before I was able to get contender position again.

With Merab Dvalishvili potentially not getting an immediate match-up, several other contenders could exire Yan. A matchup between Petr Yan and Umar Nurmagomedov excites fans, especially because their shared Russian heritage adds compelling narrative significance.

Their contrasting yet dangerous styles, with Yan’s sharp boxing and Nurmagomedov’s unorthodox striking promise a highly technical showdown. Given their power and aggression, many believe the fight could become a bloody spectacle featuring legitimate knockout potential for both competitors.
