Over the years, UFC commentator Joe Rogan has frequently engaged in deep discussions on controversial topics. Many of these conversations have taken place on his podcast, where Rogan and his guests explore a variety of interesting subjects. Most recently, one of the renowned chess grandmasters Magnus Carlsen appeared on the show.
57-year-old Joe Rogan engaged in an insightful discussion with Carlsen. While their conversation occasionally touched on the combat sports community, he primarily focused on getting to know Carlsen better. At one point, Joe Rogan inquired about the 34-year-old grandmaster’s physical fitness and activities. Carlsen’s response left Rogan feeling baffled.
You don’t do that? I don’t understand. If you’re so obsessed with Chess and that seems to have a primary factor.

One reason Rogan was surprised by Carlsen was the chess grandmaster’s apparent disinterest in improving his physical fitness. However, the 34-year-old Norwegian had his reasons for this. Interestingly, although Carlsen acknowledged that both strong mental skills and defined physical fitness play a significant role in chess, he wasn’t motivated enough to subject himself to rigorous training regimens.
I’m not a Michael Jordan type who has to like who has to like go all out in every game. I used to but now I don’t think have that in me because my main motivation for playing chess is that I love to play. I don’t have concrete goals…

Rogan has been an active fitness enthusiast and even a Taekwondo practitioner from an early age. Currently, the UFC commentator advocates for the importance of physical fitness and the benefits of a nutritious diet. However, contrary to Rogan’s expectations, chess grandmaster Magnus Carlsen did not turn out to be an avid follower of these principles. Nevertheless, the UFC commentator refrained from criticizing Carlsen.
When Joe Rogan pointed out the drawbacks of Dwayne Johnson’s physical fitness
Through his podcast shows and his reputation as a UFC commentator, Joe Rogan has built strong relationships with several global personalities. Most recently, he played a significant role in endorsing Donald Trump for president, which led to a wave of praise for him. Additionally, Hollywood movie star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is another notable individual who is a friend of Rogan’s.

A few years ago, Rogan participated in a training session with the Hollywood movie star. After their intense workout, which lasted over an hour, the UFC commentator shared his insights on the actor’s physical attributes. In a podcast episode with Cameron Hanes, Rogan discussed some areas where the former WWE superstar could improve.
We’re with The Rock. We worked out for three hours. He did pretty good. Except for the mobility stuff. Like windmills, he struggled with windmills, and he struggled with a couple of things. They require flexibility, they require range of motion and core strength… Those apply very well to functional strengths like martial arts.

Interestingly, Johnson once considered a transition from professional wrestling to mixed martial arts (MMA). Over the years, there have been examples of professional athletes making such a switch. However, at this point, ‘The Rock’ seems far from stepping into the MMA octagon, despite the impressive reasons he once shared with Joe Rogan for wanting to pursue this move.
