After more than two decades in the limelight as one of the biggest MMA fighters, Jon Jones finally announced his retirement. While retirement for most people is about returning to a peaceful life and enjoying success, Jones has different plans now. With his latest hit-and-run case making headlines, things are looking bad and the situation has attracted attention from Joe Rogan.

Recently, Albuquerque police uploaded full footage from an officer’s body cam showing details of a serious traffic accident. In the video, a half-clothed, visibly drunk woman appeared and repeatedly claimed that Jones was the driver involved. Veteran commentator Rogan discussed the situation in great detail during a recent JRE episode featuring UFC bantamweight contender Cory Sandhagen.

He’s drunk on the phone, talking to the cops. The girl in the car said he was driving. The car was wrecked and Jon was gone and she ratted him out. “Jon Jones did it,” and Jones on the phone with the cops and apparently, allegedly he threatened the cops which is not good and he’s already got a history of running from accidents.

Reports suggest the woman was previously at the UFC legend’s residence, where they both got drunk and consumed psychedelic mushrooms together. Following that, she reportedly found herself inside the car, and after the accident occurred, Jones allegedly fled the scene immediately. In a phone call, it was claimed that the veteran UFC fighter threatened to kill both the police officer and the woman involved.

Jones is scheduled to appear for a bond arraignment hearing on July 24, 2025, at Albuquerque’s Metropolitan Court. According to Jones’ attorney, Christopher Dodd, the case made by the police was completely false and Jones wasn’t involved whatsoever. For now, Jones has remained completely silent and hasn’t publicly spoken or made any official statement about the ongoing allegations.

Jones has a long history of legal troubles, including a well-known hit-and-run case in 2015 that shocked MMA fans. In 2019, the former champion faced another incident where he was charged with battery after allegedly assaulting a waitress at a strip club. In 2021, Jones was arrested again for domestic violence after reportedly hitting his wife, adding to his already controversial public image.

Inside the octagon, Jones is an absolute monster who has dominated some of the biggest names in UFC history consistently. However, his career and legacy are stained by repeated PED usage and accusations of being a dirty, rule-bending fighter. Despite all controversies, his GOAT status remains mostly intact, with many legends still regarding him as one of the greatest ever.

Jon Jones was never an active UFC heavyweight champion as injuries and long layoffs kept him away from consistent title defenses. Many fans desperately wanted him to fight rising star Tom Aspinall, who quickly became the most exciting contender in the division. The UFC reportedly tried their best to make the Jones versus Aspinall fight happen, but couldn’t secure his agreement successfully.

After his sudden retirement announcement, ‘Bones’ was heavily accused of ducking Aspinall and avoiding real heavyweight competition altogether. However, for former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, Jones had nothing to prove and wished him luck in his retirement. In response, Jones shared his humbling tweet.

I didn’t expect that from Khabib, it was humbling.

Jones and Nurmagomedov have shared an inconsistent history, as the Dagestani never truly considered Jones a personal friend ever. This is because ‘Bones’ had a heated rivalry with Daniel Cormier, a very close friend of the Dagestani fighter.

However, Khabib’s late father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, always believed Jones was the best MMA fighter to ever compete professionally. Now, ‘The Eagle’ carries that same sentiment, with top active fighters like Ilia Topuria and Islam Makhachev also respecting Jones’ legendary career.
