Irrespective of all his antics, Jake Paul remains one of the most popular names in the boxing world. The YouTuber turned fighter has made his career out of knocking out washed up UFC fighters and his marketing abilities. However, he now seeks bigger challenges, and few names are bigger than former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

Paul is known for bold claims that grab attention. Recently during a podcast, the ‘Problem Child’ claimed that he could beat Joshua in a boxing match. Paul mentioned Joshua lacks the chin or skills to compete with him. Joe Rogan responded to Paul’s statement with a sneaky comment, subtly mocking the controversial personality and his plans. 

Jake wants to fight Anthony Joshua now? So he wants to fight Anthony Joshua in 2026…Well, like, what about fight him now? He’s like, ‘No, I want to wait till 2026.’ (For what? Put on weight) No, put on all the steroids.

Paul has often faced steroid accusations throughout his boxing career. Critics point to his rapid muscle gains and power. His former rivals like Nate Diaz and Tommy Fury have hinted at possible PED use. However, Paul has denied all allegations, claiming his physique and performance came from hard work and dedication.

Rogan has seen around fighters his whole life and never shies away from calling out those who use steroids. He has often spoken about UFC legends such as Alistair Overeem and Brock Lesnar being on steroids. However, despite his critisism, Rogan has respect for Paul and his recent achievements.

Jake Paul has established a big name in boxing, but more for his marketing and entertainment value than pure boxing skills. Other than headlining some big events, he has knocked out some known faces, further boosting his name. It has reached a point where he was close to fighting the likes of Canelo Alvarez last month.

However, after Turki Alalshikh‘s multi-million dollar four-fight deal, the Mexican champion backed out. Before that, Paul fought the legendary Mike Tyson and beat him in a fairly easy way. Joe Rogan was supporting Tyson, but was ready to accept the reality. He also took this opportunity to credit Paul for his influence in boxing.

I’m glad he got to that fight and didn’t get hurt. I was hoping he would knock Jake Paul out just because that’s the Cinderella story. I don’t have anything against Jake Paul. I like Jake Paul. I think what he’s doing is genius. I think what he’s doing is, like – I mean, he’s making insane amounts of money, he’s having a great time, he’s a legit boxer.

Paul defeated Tyson by unanimous decision in an eight-round bout on November 15, 2024, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The fight, streamed globally on Netflix, attracted over 65 million concurrent viewers. Paul earned approximately $40 million, while Tyson received around $20 million for the event. 

Jake Paul’s influence in boxing is bad?

Over the last few years, boxing has seen a slow downfall. Boxing’s downfall stems from poor matchmaking, corrupt judging, and lack of star power. Politics between promotions prevent big fights and frustrate fans. Rising pay-per-view costs and the rise of influencer boxing have further damaged the sport’s credibility, pushing traditional fans away.

Influencers like Jake Paul are believed to be one major reasons. He has also challenged fighter pay structures, advocating for better compensation for boxers. While purists criticize his lack of elite competition, his impact on boxing promotion is undeniable. While the truth can be bitter, but it is safe to say that Paul manages to continuously bring more views to the sport.
