Joe Rogan is known for discussing a variety of topics and incidents in his popular podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. Rogan often talks about his knowledge in MMA and shares his personal experiences in an unfiltered way. Recently, he mentioned a wild incident that left him shocked as a young adult, albeit in a different podcast.

Rogan recently sat down with popular YouTuber and comedian Theo Von on his podcast, where the former recounted a bar incident. As a then 21-year-old the UFC commentator experienced violence very closely.

I saw this dude break a Heineken bottle on this dude’s face….just cut this guy’s face wide open. Blood was pouring down his face….I put in my head that don’t ever talk shit to a guy, somebody in a bar, deescalate always.

In his early days, Rogan trained extensively in martial arts, earning a black belt in Taekwondo. He competed in various tournaments and even became a U.S. Open champion. Rogan’s background in fighting later played a significant role in shaping his knowledge as a UFC commentator and analyst.

However, Rogan always believed in controlling his anger and avoiding unnecessary fights. Experiences like this seemed to teach him the importance of restraint. He once mentioned that after severely hurting an opponent in a match, he decided to step away from competing at the highest level.

Joe Rogan talks about the best forms of self defence

Other than fighters, normal individuals can also benefit from learning MMA disciplines. Rogan is a huge fan of Jiu-jitsu and believes it is great to tackle any unwanted brawls and fights. In an interview with Lex Fridman, he talked about it in detail.

For sure, Jiu-jitsu. I think grappling I should say. In most self defence situations, it usually winds up in grappling. You definitely better off, knowing some striking.

The debate about grappling and striking in a street fight often garners a difference in opinions. While fights often start on the feet, they often ends up on the ground. However, as Rogan mentioned the ideal way is to always avoid the fight due to the innate risk involved in such exchanges.
