In the first-ever UFC-Paramount card, Paddy Pimblett faced Justin Gaethje for the interim lightweight championship. Despite entering as the betting favorite with strong momentum and confidence, the Scouser struggled against Gaethje’s relentless pressure. After five competitive rounds filled with heavy exchanges, Pimblett ultimately lost via unanimous decision.
Since that disappointing defeat, Paddy Pimblett has rebounded mentally while gaining approximately 36 pounds. Recently, the lightweight revisited the bout on video, carefully studying the exchanges and pivotal moments. During the rewatch, Pimblett expressed visible frustration and openly criticized the commentary team.
Commentators are annoying… Watching this back is so annoying. Just infuriating.

The UFC 324 commentary team consisted of Jon Anik, veteran Joe Rogan, and Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier. Over the years, both Rogan and Cormier have repeatedly faced criticism regarding their commentary performances during major events. Cormier has often been accused by fans of showing bias toward Russian fighters in high-profile bouts.

He was even publicly criticized and boycotted by some viewers who opposed his involvement in Islam Makhachev’s fights. Rogan, meanwhile, has been caught making factual mistakes and occasionally appearing to treat commentary responsibilities too casually. On top of that, Paddy Pimblett has previously shared tense moments with Rogan during UFC interviews.
At UFC 282, Rogan asked Pimblett uncomfortable questions following his controversial victory over Jared Gordon. Many fans, including Rogan, believed Pimblett had actually lost the closely contested bout that night. During the awkward post-fight exchange, Pimblett firmly rejected Rogan’s suggestion and refused to acknowledge that it was close.
While rewatching his fight with Justin Gaethje, Paddy Pimblett voiced frustration about the unpunished eye poke incident. He argued that Gaethje had already received a warning and therefore should have had a point taken immediately.
The British fighter insisted he did not want to sound like a sore loser, but believed the eye-pokes changed everything. He explained that after the eye poke, he returned strongly and comfortably won the third round.
According to Pimblett, he secured rounds three and five, which would have resulted in a draw. He further questioned why Gaethje’s coach, Trevor Wittman, has an anti-eye poke glove design. Pimblett highlighted how Wittman refused to provide the design despite his fighters frequently committing eye pokes.
The Scouser has also mentioned how he suffered ‘scratches’ on his eyeballs during the fight. Other than Pimblett, fellow UK fighter Tom Aspinall has also had eye injuries following his title fight, which has resulted in a huge debate.
Paddy Pimblett talks about his next challenge
Paddy Pimblett has frequently been accused by critics of receiving special treatment from UFC. The Liverpool star has a massive fan base and is one of the promotion’s most marketable personalities. Despite suffering a recent defeat, Pimblett continues to be viewed as a genuine star attraction.

His brash trash-talking and unapologetic confidence often divide opinion but undeniably generate widespread attention. Even Justin Gaethje praised Pimblett’s durability for surviving heavy exchanges without being knocked out at UFC 324. Following the setback, Pimblett has already begun discussing his return and teasing potential comeback opponents.
I’ll fight anyone but… Saint-Denis sounds like a good fight for me. Europe’s best lightweights going at it against each other.
Paddy Pimblett continued.
Paddy Pimblett currently sits at #6 in the lightweight rankings and is targeting #5 contender Benoit Saint-Denis. Saint-Denis recently defeated Dan Hooker via TKO and is pushing toward a potential lightweight title opportunity.

Given his ambitions for championship contention, BSD may prefer a higher-ranked opponent instead of facing Pimblett next. Still, Pimblett’s comeback after his first UFC defeat would create compelling stakes and fan interest.
