Joe Rogan weighs-in on the GOAT debate
American Comedian and podcaster, but most importantly UFC Commentator, Joe Rogan has given his take on the “greatest of all time” debate currently doing the buzz in the MMA world. It all started when Khabib Nurmagomedov beat Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 and immediately announced his retirement, thereby finishing his career with no losses, all while losing just one round in his entire career.
The aftermath of Khabib’s retirement saw the fighter’s fans claiming that Khabib is undeniably the GOAT, a lot agreed to it, but there were a few who disapproved of it – notably UFC Heavyweight Jon Jones.
Now, speaking in his own podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience“ with combat sport analyst, Luke Thomas as the guest, Rogan compared the illustrious careers of both Jon Jones and Khabib Nurmagomedov.
“Khabib lost two rounds in his entire career” – Joe Rogan
Being trained in MMA himself, Joe Rogan has a plethora of knowledge when it comes to MMA. He was quoted as saying, “That is the argument right, like who is the GOAT?. I think if you look at Jon Jones’s early career, Jon Jones wins the title early in his career, in 2011.
And from then on has fought more fights as championship fights than any other fights. So he’s the most accomplished for sure. Wins the title, youngest guy to ever win the title in the UFC. Beats Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua who’s a legend, up until he gets to Alexander Gustafsson.”
Bringing Khabib into the debate, Joe Rogan said, “Dominick Reyes thought he won the fight. Real close! Real close fight! So those fights haven’t happened with Khabib yet and we don’t know if they ever could! We dont’t know! Like right now, you see flawless victory after flawless victory.
You could maybe make the argument that Khabib lost two rounds in his entire career. Maybe the first round against Justin and maybe the third round with Conor. That’s it! And, either one of those – didn’t get cut, didn’t get dropped, didn’t get hurt!
