In recent months, significant developments have occurred in the UFC antitrust lawsuit. The lawsuit, initiated by former UFC fighters Cung LeNate Quarry, and Jon Fitch, has reached a settlement. Most recently, Brendan Schaub, one of those fighters receiving a substantial portion of the settlement, has reacted to the situation.

On September 26, 2024, TKO reached an agreement with the plaintiffs to settle all claims made in the Le case for a total of $375 million. A few days ago, Judge Richard Boulware granted final approval for the settlement of the lawsuit, which was originally filed in 2014. Following this approval, Brendan Schaub discussed his share of the settlement in a recent podcast episode.

Oh, did you tell you this? Daddy’s getting a check from the UFC… The lawyer called me and he’s like, ‘You’re on the list.’ I was on so long ago, I forgot about it. He goes, ‘They settled.’ I go, ‘Congrats! What do I get the money in like 10 years when I’m f**king old and grey. He goes, ‘No, July.’ I say, what years is it? (2013-2018). I was like, that’s my entire career. He goes, ‘Yeah, you got a pretty check coming bud.’

The UFC antitrust lawsuit involves fighters from the years 2010 to 2017. In 2014, Le and other fighters argued that the UFC was engaging in monopolistic practices in the market for MMA fighters. Their claims suggested issues such as exclusive contracts, coercion, and acquisitions. Notably, Schaub competed in the UFC until 2014, which qualifies him as a relevant party in the aforementioned lawsuit.

Judge Richard Boulware previously rejected a $335 million settlement, as it did not meet the plaintiffs’ demands. However, with the updated offer from the promotion, the plaintiffs raised no further issues regarding the lawsuit. The settlement amount will be paid in installments over a mutually agreed-upon period by the Company and its subsidiaries. As for Schaub, he is expecting it in July 2025.

Schaub has frequently appeared as a guest as well as a panel member. In one instance, Rogan and the former UFC heavyweight fighter delved into a discussion about the buzzing topic of the UFC antitrust lawsuit. Notably, the UFC commentator had a vivid reaction, drawing criticism toward the plaintiff who was demanding exclusive contracts and additional monetary incentives.

I’ve said this before on the podcast and some fighters got mad at me, listen I understand if you go to Bellator if they pay you more money, and I support you doing that. What I’m saying is if you wanna be the best in the world, you wanna be the most famous motherf*****, the king of the king at 155 pounds, 170 pounds, 185, 205, you have to fight in the UFC.

Rogan’s assessment holds some truth, as the UFC has gradually elevated its stature in the MMA community over the years, despite facing intense scrutiny and damage to its reputation. As a result, even with the emergence of new promotions, the UFC executives remain unfazed by the competition.
