England skipper Joe Root heaped praises for the newly built Motera Stadium on Tuesday and expects the atmosphere to be ‘electric’ during the match days. Motera- the world’s largest stadium with a seating capacity of 1,10,000, is the venue for the third Test between India and England that will commence on February 24.

The cricketers are full charged up for the day-night pink-ball Test match in Ahmedabad as the action would begin nearly a week after the second Test concluded in Chennai.

‘It is a phenomenal stadium,’ says Joe Root

The swanky Motera Stadium has been the talk of the town for its exceptional infrastructure. Hardly has anyone from the cricketing fraternity left to praise the magnificent stadium in Ahmedabad.

It is a phenomenal stadium. I am sure you are going to see some brilliant cricket over the years at this ground. It looks fantastic, hopefully, the wicket can produce some very good cricket. I am sure the atmosphere within (the stadium) will be electric. It is also great to see fans back in the previous game. I am sure with the capacity of this ground that noise will go up and you want to be a part of big games,” Root said during a virtual press conference on Tuesday.

While the visitors claimed an easy victory in the first Test in Chennai, Team India clinched a thumping 317-run win during the second Test to level the series.

India’s star allrounder Ravichandran Ashwin was instrumental in getting the hosts a convincing win during the second clash in Chennai. Ashwin not only scored a century during India’s second innings but scalped a total of eight wickets in the match which included a fifer.

‘Ashwin is a world-class performer,’ asserts Joe Root

England skipper heaped praises for Ashwin for how the latter used his crease which made it difficult for Jack Leach to bowl at one length.

He (Ashwin) is a world-class performer. I think he has been quite tricky for everyone, especially for lefties, because how good skilful he is. He is a fine performer at home and guys will have to keep working hard to try and figure out how they are going to score their runs,” he said.

One thing that I watched how he played Leach, for example, in the previous game, scoring hundred, he used the crease to his advantage. Not just coming down to the wicket but also going deep in his crease and made it hard for Jack to bowl at one length,” Root added.

The Test series between the two sides now stands 1-1, while the third and the fourth Test matches are yet to be played in Ahmedabad.
