Joel Embiid
NBA star Joel Embiid has been subject to major criticism recently. He faced criticism from mostly everyone in and around the sport, from experts to his own fans. Interestingly, Embiid and the 76ers crowd are beginning to have a bond comparable to the one that caused a gap between former playmaker Ben Simmons and the Philadelphia supporters before the Australian moved to the Brooklyn Nets in 2022.
Embiid recently attended a press conference where he addressed various topics, including his injury setback and his timeline of return. However, during the interview, the 76ers star was left unhappy regarding the treatment his side fans are giving him. He made his intentions clear regarding his return to the court.
I’ve broken my face twice. I came back early with the risk of losing my vision…When I see people saying he doesn’t want to play, I’ve done way too much for this city and putting myself at risk for people to be saying that. I do think it’s bulls***. I’ve done way too much for this f****** city to be treated like this.
Joel Embiid told the reporters
Embiid on not being able to play: "I've broken my face twice. I came back early with the risk of losing my vision…When I see people saying he doesn't want to play, I've done way too much for this city and putting myself at risk for people to be saying that." pic.twitter.com/2NtzY0in3y

The 76ers superstar also faced criticism for his past comments regarding ‘playing back-to-backs’ in the NBA. Embiid is opposed to playing back-to-backs. This led former players like Kevin Garnett and Gilbert Arenas to let out a scathing attack on him. It remains to be seen if Embiid responds to these former players or ignores the noise.
However, when fit, Embiid is one of the best centers in the league alongside Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic. His recent struggles to recover from his injuries keep him from playing basketball regularly. Embiid recently opened up on his injury ahead of his side’s matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Joel Embiid provides important injury update on ‘left knee’
To put it mildly, Joel Embiid has had a career marred by injuries. Only 433 of the 805 regular-season games have been played by the Philadelphia 76ers star man. Additionally, he has never made it to the playoffs, being fully fit. Most recently, though, Embiid provided a significant injury update about his left knee.
Just managing and trying to figure out the best approach, but I feel pretty good. I’ve started doing some live stuff and it feels pretty good, so I should be back pretty soon.
During a press conference, Joel Embiid told the media

– Whether he had a setback with the knee.
– His approach to managing the knee going forward.
– His timeline to return.

In addition, Embiid did not provide the media with a specific return timeline. However, he was part of a full practice session with his side ahead of their matchup against the Grizzlies. This specifies that the big man is nearing his comeback on the court for the first time this 2024-25 NBA season. All eyes will be on Embiid once he returns to the court.
