Joel Embiid

Ever since Joel Embiid came into the NBA, he has developed himself into one of the best big men in the game. Now a league MVP, his prowess on both the offensive and defensive side suggests the skills the 7′ 1″ center possesses, are enough to dominate in the NBA. However, injuries have hampered his intentions to continuously dominate. That led the Philadelphia 76ers superstar to suggest a change in the game which could help him.

The big man was a guest on The Check Ball Show’s first ever episode. There, while talking about his game, host Drew Hanlen asked him what he would average had there been no double teams slowing him down. He replied;

No doubles! 50. Not even kidding. I would. Cause, all you would have to do is just throw the ball down there every single possession. I'll get to the free throw line or I'll score. And then, most teams they have what, two big men, three big men? Next thing you know they're all going to be in foul trouble.

Suggesting that no double teams will help Joel Embiid score at a rate that no one has managed to do in history. 50 points per game would be a record of sorts. That said, basketball is played with double teams. The better the player, the stronger the double teams that get thrown his way. But if there were no double teams, many other superstars would have attempted to set records of their own.

Competition breeds in any environment. Therefore, it is not a foregone conclusion that he would have been the only superstar to score 50 points per game. However, he did mention the point about opponents getting into foul trouble. Something he has an infamous reputation for.

Fans take turns trolling Joel Embiid for this take

Fans of the sport are the first to talk about Joel Embiid’s foul-baiting tendencies. Every time he goes on a scoring spree, fans look at the stat sheets to pinpoint how he excels in the ability to go to the free-throw line. Fans also know that taking out double teams is just the same as making any job easier. If that happens to anyone, that person can also do their job in a better way.

No wonder fans could not see the logic in his words. Which is why they took turns on social media to call out the superstar. Check out some of those reactions below:

Joel Embiid is already a skilled basketball player. Some consider him to be one of the best ever in the NBA, when healthy. Therefore, for the Philadelphia 76ers superstar, who can be historically great in the game the way it is played now, this take seemed a bit odd.
