Joel Embiid hurt Stephen Curry's Golden State Warriors teammate Branding Podziemski in Team USA practice

Joel Embiid is without a doubt one of the best players in the NBA. However, just like every coin has a flip side, the Philadelphia 76ers superstar has one too. In pursuit of the basketball, he does end up hurting an opposing player sometimes. This time, it was Stephen Curry‘s Golden State Warriors teammate’s turn. However, since it was in the modest setting of a Team USA scrimmage preparing for the Olympics, fans were lighting up the internet.

On a missed shot, both Embiid and Brandin Podziemski went up for the rebound. The 7-foot center with his extensive wingspan tipped the ball out to Stephen Curry. But as he did that with his right hand, his left elbow caught Podziemski in the face. The guard landed on the floor with his hands to his face as he grimaced in pain. Embiid did go over to check on the Warriors’ rising star, but catching the elbow of a nearly 300 lb. big man will hurt, causing play to stop.

The Philadelphia 76ers superstar did not do it intentionally. But the knock was enough to sideline Brandin Podziemski for some time as he sat on the bench while being looked at by medical staff. Thankfully, he did not get any cuts or bruises.

But had he been injured, Golden State Warriors fans would not have liked it. After all, for Stephen Curry and the team to try for another NBA title, they need Podziemski to be healthy and playing well.

Joel Embiid’s play not appreciated by fans

Coming back to Joel Embiid, fans know the former MVP does have a penchant for going a little over the line at times. Some are intentional, others not so. But that did not stop basketball fans from calling out the newest member of Team USA. They want him to take care of his body parts so that he does not injure anyone else. Especially the likes of Podziemski, who had no business getting hurt while trying for a rebound.

Joel Embiid might want to clean up those issues before heading to Paris. After all, such acts in the Olympics, intentional or unintentional, are met with a retaliatory response. Moreover, the referees are not particularly protective as in the NBA.
