Triple H’s comments point to Joel Embiid’s natural flair for theatrics, a quality essential for pro wrestling. From his over-the-top celebrations to his playful interactions with fans and opponents, Embiid’s personality already mirrors that of a WWE star. His larger-than-life presence would easily fit into the world of wrestling.
Triple H’s list of potential NBA-to-WWE crossovers didn’t stop at Embiid. He also mentioned Houston Rockets’ Dillon Brooks, Atlanta Hawks’ Trae Young, New Orleans Pelicans’ Zion Williamson, and Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler. The hosts compared Jimmy Butler to WWE star CM Punk, citing Butler’s unapologetic attitude and work ethic as parallels to Punk’s persona in wrestling.
Triple H’s personal invite to Joel Embiid last year
Triple H’s admiration for Joel Embiid isn’t new. Last year, the WWE executive extended a personal invitation to WrestleMania 40 after Embiid performed a controversial celebration inspired by the iconic wrestling faction D-Generation X. During a game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Embiid’s use of the DX “Suck It” gesture earned him a $35,000 fine from the NBA.
Embiid revealed his admiration for Triple H wasn’t new. In a 2023 interview, he explained his admiration for the WWE legend and why he used the gesture.
This wasn’t the first time Embiid drew inspiration from WWE. In 2022, he used the same DX-inspired celebration during a game against the Brooklyn Nets, earning a $25,000 fine.
