“The whole east was hurt,” Joel Embiid quickly shuts down Celtics ‘dynasty’ talk on live television
Joel Embiid joined ESPN's NBA Countdown ahead of Game 4 of the NBA finals.
Joel Embiid strongly denied the Celtics dynasty conversations
The Boston Celtics’ having an ‘easy’ path to the finals remains a popular opinion during this postseason. After the team swept the injured Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference finals, the talks gained more steam. Now, the team’s conference opponent, Joel Embiid, has also shown his agreement with the opinion.
Joel Embiid joined the NBA countdown panel as a guest ahead of Game 4 of the NBA finals. During the broadcast, host Malika Andrews presented the idea of the beginning of a Boston Celtics dynasty. Andrews stated that with this win, the Celtics might go on to win multiple championships. Embiid quickly denied the idea as he reminded the panelists of the injured opponents of the Celtics.
I don't think so. Not with the new CBA. You also gotta understand, the whole East was kinda hurt this year. Myself included.Joel Embiid via ESPN’s NBA Countdown
There is certainly some truth in Embiid’s statement, as the former MVP had to play through injuries in the first round. Similarly, for other Eastern Conference teams, some of the main players of the team were injured against the Celtics. This includes Jimmy Butler in the first round, Donovan Mitchell in the second round, and Tyrese Haliburton in the third round.
On the other hand, one of the Celtics’ key players, Kristaps Porzingis, came back from injury in the finals. Also, the Celtics lost in Game 4; hence, they have yet to win a championship, even to start the dynasty conversations. However, regardless of the result this year, it seems that Embiid and the Eastern team aim to give Boston a hard time next season.
Joel Embiid honestly admitted ‘hating’ the Boston Celtics
Embiid’s appearance on the NBA countdown went viral for many reasons. First, the 76ers center was trolled for his ‘first finals appearance’, then Embiid was also brutally honest throughout the broadcast. From denying the Celtics’ dynasty conversations to suggesting Paul George‘s addition to Philly, Embiid kept the fans entertained.
As the Celtics are one win away from winning the championship, host Stephen A. Smith asked how Embiid felt about that. The 30-year-old showed his competitiveness as he immediately gave an honest answer. Embiid stated that he is not fond of the team at all.
I can't stand them. I can't stand them. I hate Boston.Joel Embiid via ESPN’s NBA Countdown
Embiid further praised the city, fans, and even the players but admitted it ‘hurts’ to witness their success. However, the star is only using it as a motivation for a better season for Philly next year. The 76ers fans hope to see Embiid healthy and active next year to have a more successful run next season.
