This past offseason, the Philadelphia 76ers signed Joel Embiid to a contract extension. Then they went out and got hold of free agent superstar Paul George, creating their own big 3 along with Tyrese Maxey. Along with that, they signed a plethora of impactful players who all can help them win an NBA title.

But soon after the season started, Embiid’s health issues cropped up. Along with that of George, the Sixers struggled mightily. But when the two came back, it seemed as if the team were getting back on track. Except his knee did not agree.

Joel Embiid has claimed that he did not get enough time to heal his already repaired knee. He was rushed back last season in a bid to save their playoff chance. Then he played in the Paris Olympics, again negating any possibility of rest.

Now, his knee has reached a point where it needs further surgery. He wanted to play and was exploring all options until it reached a point when he was clutching his knee in his last game. Now, Shams Charania brings an update.

Finally deciding to shut him down for the season makes sense. They need him for the long run and risking his health was not a solution. The Philadelphia 76ers might as well have a healthy and rejuvenated Embiid battling next season.

Fans lose it after Joel Embiid ends his season again

The problem basketball fans have is that they have seen this movie over and over. Joel Embiid’s health issues are as common as anything comes. He has nearly missed the same number of games that he has played, which itself is an indication that the star center can never stay healthy.

Despite all those signs, the franchise handed him an extension which means, they are stuck with him for at least the foreseeable future. Now to end it in this manner saw fans jumping onto social media to berate the franchise and the player.

Joel Embiid might turn his career around. The surgery or treatment along with extended rest and recovery should get him back to prime MVP Embiid. Then he could go out and destroy the notion that he is not motivated enough to compete.

But time and again fans and the media have pointed out that the Philadelphia 76ers need to push him to do the right thing. If they took this decision against his wishes to continue playing, they might have done something good.
