The tension between James Harden and the Philadelphia 76ers could result in significant repercussions for both parties if not addressed promptly. Harden, who was recently fined $100,000 for labeling Daryl Morey, the President of Basketball Operations for the 76ers, as a liar, remains resolute in his refusal to play for the 76ers in the upcoming season. This stance could potentially have profound implications for the 76ers as their franchise player Joel Embiid might be looking at other teams to fulfill his dream of winning a championship.

Embiid, a product of the “The Process” during which the 76ers strategically underperformed to secure higher draft picks over three consecutive years, emerged alongside Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz from those drafts. However, only Embiid remains on the team. Players like Embiid, injury-prone yet exceptional when active, face a relatively limited prime period. At 29 years old, Embiid seeks to secure as many championships as possible while he is still a prominent figure. Unfortunately, the current situation in Philadelphia might not be conducive to achieving this goal.

NBA champion Richard Jefferson shares a similar sentiment. During a recent appearance on the Road Trippin Podcast, he discussed how the circumstances could potentially lead Joel Embiid to request a trade. This could potentially land him with the New York Knicks, allowing him to partner with another superstar and work towards securing a modern-era championship for the Knicks.

The Knicks haven’t reached the Finals since facing the Spurs as the 8th seed during the lockout-shortened season in 1999. Jefferson said, “I think Joel Embiid and another superstar will end up in New York.”

While there’s a slim chance that Joel Embiid might actually seek a trade from Philadelphia, Ramona Shelburne of ESPN previously reported that Embiid was content as a Sixer. However, if Embiid were to request a trade due to repeated playoff disappointments during his tenure, it wouldn’t be entirely surprising.

In another report by Vincent Goodwill, he suggested that if Embiid were to demand a trade, the New York Knicks and the Miami Heat would be top contenders to acquire the superstar. Both teams are closely monitoring Embiid’s situation in Philly and are actively seeking another superstar to enhance their championship prospects.

The Knicks could potentially emerge as favorites due to their superior assets in comparison to the Heat, who are currently attempting to acquire Damian Lillard. Despite the Heat’s attempts, their maximum offer to the Portland Trail Blazers hasn’t been accepted.

On the other hand, the Knicks possess multiple young players like RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley, in addition to potential draft compensation that they could offer in exchange for Embiid. The longevity of Embiid’s patience and his tenure in Philly will be intriguing to observe.
