Joey Bosa lost his cool after the Buffalo Bills’ defense failed to protect a narrow four-point lead against the Denver Broncos in the AFC Divisional Round at Mile High. Cameras caught the veteran pass rusher smashing his helmet after the game.

A few minutes after Bo Nix gave Denver the lead, the Bills pushed to get even. Quarterback Josh Allen drove into the Broncos’ half to set up a field goal try. Matt Prater nailed a 50-yard field goal and forced overtime. The Bills missed a great chance to sneak a win.

What looked like a clean catch from Brandin Cooks was chalked off by the referee for an interception after Broncos’ McMillan snatched the ball away from the Bills’ wideout. On the next drive, the Bills gave up a couple of pass interference penalties that worked in Denver’s favor. Lutz smashed home the game-winning field goal from 23 yards to secure the Broncos’ first AFC title appearance since 2015.

The game ended 33-30. After the final whistle, the tunnel cam caught a wild scene as the Bills made their way back to the locker room. Joey Bosa took off his helmet and viciously threw it against the wall. The reaction seemed appropriate.

Joey Bosa’s future in Buffalo is uncertain following the Bills’ playoff exit

Bosa spent nine seasons with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers. He was expected to leave the Bolts in 2024, but stuck around to play for Jim Harbaugh. The run lasted only 15 games before the Chargers bowed out in the wildcard round.

The five-time Pro Bowler was picked up by the Bills earlier this past summer. They needed someone after Von Miller left to play for Washington. Bosa could have reunited with his brother Nick in San Francisco. However, he opted to sign with the Bills.

I’m getting old, and I’m ready to win… excited to join a winning culture and a football culture in a football town.

Joey Bosa revealed the reason behind signing with the Bills

The Bills went 12-5 in the regular season. Bosa made a sizeable contribution to the team. In 15 starts, Bosa racked up a league-best 5 forced fumbles, 29 combined tackles, 5.0 sacks, and two pass deflections. He earned a 79.3 grade from Pro Football Focus.

Bosa’s performance took a nosedive in the wildcard win against the Jaguars last week. His stat column looked like an empty McDonald’s bucket, ready to be thrown into the garbage.

I’m so relieved. It was not my day today. It was not my best day. I need to play much better. I needed to have much more of an impact in the game.

Bosa told the Democrat and Chronicle

The 30-year-old had a much-improved game against the Broncos, racking up 3 combined tackles and landing a hit on the quarterback, which the referee judged as a late hit.

The Bills gave up five total penalties, including two PI on the Broncos’ final drive of overtime. These helped set up Wil Lutz to kick the game-winning field goal.

The loss has cast doubt on Bosa’s future in Buffalo. He’s on a one-year, $12.3 million contract that wraps up after the Super Bowl. Unless the Bills bring him back, Bosa will enter free agency again.

Despite his age, Bosa has the pedigree. In 123 appearances, he has racked up 372 combined tackles, 77.0 sacks, 5 pass deflections, 22 forced fumbles, and 4 forced recoveries.
