After spending nine seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, defensive end Joey Bosa has found a new home with the Buffalo Bills. The linebacker was traded by the team that drafted him after they were reluctant to keep him aboard due to his consistent injuries.
Bosa has struggled to stay healthy and despite the impact he has on the field, the team felt that keeping him would be costlier than parting ways with him.
The defensive end signed a one-year, $12.6 million deal with the Buffalo Bills, and Bosa has wasted no time in understanding what is expected of him at Highmark Stadium, a Super Bowl win.
Shortly after the news of his signing with Buffalo became official, he received a ‘Welcome’ text from quarterback Josh Allen. Allen reached out to his new teammate and the inspirational message he had for him.
We have a chance to do something special. Josh texted me that if we do what we set out to do, we can really be immortalized in this town. That’s what it’s all about is winning, winning a championship, and that’s why I think people are here.
Joey Bosa said (H/T: profootballtalk)
The Bills fanbase has prayed and prayed for the team to win a Super Bowl; however, those prayers have yet to be answered. Buffalo is one of 12 NFL teams that have never won a Super Bowl in its 60-year franchise history.
To just reach the big game will not be satisfying enough for Josh Allen and Co. The goal remains to successfully close and win the game. The quarterback was one of the key reasons that convinced Bosa to join Buffalo.
The Bills have had talented rosters on numerous occasions in history, however, the franchise has had to deal with a curse. The curse of never being able to close Super Bowl games.
The Buffalo Bills hold a unique record in Super Bowl history
From 1992 to 1996, the team made it to four consecutive championship games. To achieve that feat once alone is impressive, year after year going to the finals is nothing less than a Herculean task.
However, the more shocking fact is that the Bills ended up losing all of these games. This losing streak of theirs led to the notion that the team was cursed in some aspect.

The closest Buffalo came to winning the Super Bowl was in 1991. They went up against the New York Giants and the game came close down to the wire with the latter winning 20-19. This one-point win by the Giants remains the only game in Super Bowl history to have been won by a 1-point difference.
Joey Bosa will hope to play a part in the Bills’ quest to deliver them to the promised land. The linebacker had high praise for Josh Allen.
Playing with a quarterback like Josh, playing for a coach like Coach McDermott, it’s the right situation with me, the right culture, it feels right, including the people in Buffalo are locked in with one goal, and that’s winning. It’s been really close, and I think it’s long overdue to get over that hump.
Joey Bosa added
The Chargers are headed in the right direction but Bosa believes the Bills have a better chance of making it to the Super Bowl than his former team.
However, for Joey Bosa to have a considerable impact on this team, he will need to be more available during the season. Over the last three years, he has missed over 20 games which is concerning but the linebacker remains optimistic.
In a year where Buffalo parted ways with Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller, Bosa has stepped in as a respectable replacement. He is going to take up that leadership role in the locker room and when healthy, his game needs no introduction.
