IPL 2021: Jofra Archer could pull out of tournament due to elbow injury – Reports

In what could be a huge blow to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) franchise in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), their ace pacer Jofra Archer could pull out of the tournament due to an elbow injury he has been carrying. The 25-year-old has been suffering from the injury since the Test series against India and it now seems like he has aggravated the same leaving his IPL participation in doubt. Further, Archer is almost certain to miss out on the squad for the three-match ODI series that will begin from March 23.

Archer’s absence would be a crushing blow to RR’s hopes of winning the IPL as the Englishman has been their most reliable pacer. Despite the side’s last placed finish last season, Archer was named the Most Valuable Player in the tournament.

England skipper Eoin Morgan spoke at the post-match presentation following England’s loss in the fifth T20I against India about Archer’s fitness. “Not quite sure yet (about his availability for the ODIs). We’re going to wait until tonight and tomorrow to see how Jofra has pulled up. He clearly had a progressive injury that has become worse and does need attention,” Morgan said.

“Most of our bowlers are normally carrying niggles, but certainly Jofra’s situation has definitely got worse. So, like I mentioned, it does need attention. “I think it’s rare when a bowler isn’t managing pain, what they do is a tough job. If you ask any of them, are they ever pain-free, it’s a pretty rare instance if they say ‘yes’,” he added.

Reports from English sources like The Telegraph have stated that Archer is likely to miss out on the IPL and so have Indian sources like PTI. For Rajasthan Royals, an anxious wait beckons.
