Former World No. 4 Johanna Konta had only great things to say about the current World No.1, Iga Swiatek, who is on a hot streak of 19 wins in a row, and all of them coming at WTA 1000 events or better. Wimbledon has been Swiatek’s least successful Grand Slam thus far, and she seems determined to go for the title this year. Konta believes Swiatek will undoubtedly conquer the lawns of London in her career, as she is too good a player to not complete a Career Slam.
In the three editions of Wimbledon that she has been a part of, Swiatek never made it past the quarterfinal stage. Konta is aware that grass is not Swiatek’s favorite surface but still thinks she will win at least one Wimbledon in her career, even if it doesn’t happen soon.
I believe it is only a matter of time – she will win Wimbledon at some point. If it’s not this year, it might be next year, if not it might by the following year.Johanna Konta speaking at a ‘Pickleball Slam’ event in London
Swiatek was set to play at the Berlin Open, which is a WTA 500-level grass court event. However, she feels the need for more rest after all the stress she had to endure before becoming the youngest woman to win three consecutive Roland Garros titles.
Johanna Konta picks Aryna Sabalenka over others as one of the favorites for Wimbledon
Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek have been at each other’s throats, on the court and the rankings ladder, for a while now. This rivalry is bringing more attention to the sport and also leveling it up.
They faced off in two consecutive WTA 1000 level finals just over a month ago and had successful runs at the French Open. Konta outlines that they are the two best women’s players at the moment and are a step above the others.
I still see Aryna (Sabalenka) as one of the big frontrunners as well. To defend her Australian Open title, and she has been really dominant as well. For me it is them two (Swiatek and Sabalenka) – I think they are the best two players right now.Johanna Konta added
The Brit thinks Sabalenka is one of the players to watch out for during the next Grand Slam, which will have a stacked draw with all the women playing great consistently over the last few months.
