“That will be a big goal of hers,” Johanna Konta predicts Emma Raducanu’s ‘big goal’ for the rest of the 2024 season

Konta thinks the 209th-ranked Raducanu is not thinking about improving her ranks but wants to keep playing without any injuries for the rest of the season.

Emma Raducanu‘s major goal in this grass season is to stay healthy, believes former British No. 1 Johanna Konta. Raducanu has made it to the quarterfinals for the first time on the surface in the ongoing Nottingham Open, a WTA 250 event.

Raducanu, who underwent three surgeries last year (two on her wrists and one on her ankle) and missed this year’s Roland Garros, has made it clear that she is focusing on her home Grand Slam event, the Wimbledon Championships. She is searching for her second title of her career since winning the 2021 US Open as a qualifier.

I mean I would imagine for her, she would be looking to stay healthy physically, to play a lot of matches. That will be a big goal of hers. I think for her, it will be more than just the grass, it will be to stay healthy on the US swing.
Johanna Konta said at a ‘Pickleball Slam’ event in Kingston upon Thames

Raducanu doesn’t have any points to defend in the grass-court events, so winning matches will only help her rankings. Winning the Nottingham could take the Brit inside the top 200 as well.

Johanna Konta wants the British players to enjoy themselves in home events

Johanna Konta doesn’t think the British players are going to think about which player will have more pressure to do well on the grass courts but thinks Emma Raducanu is likely to have more attention from the media because of her US Open victory. The 33-year-old Brit, who retired in 2021, however, wants these British players in the Nottingham Open to make use of all the home advantages like playing in front of the home crowds.

They enjoy this part of the year for what it is. You get to be at home, play in front of a home crowd, and get home comforts – there’s a lot to enjoy as a British player during the grass-court summer.

Raducanu beat Japan’s Ena Shibahara and Ukraine’s Daria Snigur in her first two rounds in straight sets. She will face either Francesca Jones or Ashlyn Krueger in the next round.
