After years of slogging on NXT, the effervescent duo of Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa finally tasted championship gold on the main roster earlier this month. They got the better of Grayson Waller and Austin Theory to capture the WWE tag team titles. It took them eight years to reach there. However, Gargano isn’t content. Why so? Well, here’s why.

While speaking to Under the Ring podcast, the 36-year-old admitted that he and Ciampa aren’t just happy to be the champions. Instead, they want to navigate the tag team division in WWE to unprecedented heights. Johnny Gargano stood his ground and yearned for that elusive opportunity to fulfill what he dreams of.

The fans erupted in jubilation when #DIY ousted A-Town Down Under on SmackDown a night before Money in the Bank. The babyfaces leveraged the Shatter Machine, a patented finishing maneuver of current AEW team of FTR. It was an ode to the latter, who were one of Ciampa and Gargano’s greatest rivals during their stint in NXT.

Even though it took a long time for #DIY to make it to the apex of the tag team division on SmackDown, they made it regardless. But there’s just no rest for the weary. They’re up against a stern challenge next. This Friday on SmackDown, #DIY will defend their doubles silverware against Tama Tonga and Jacob Fatu.

The menacing Bloodline members earned a crack at #DIY’s gold by virtue of winning a gauntlet match. And now, they’d want to upset Ciampa and Gargano in Cleveland, which is Johnny Wrestling’s hometown. Considering the unrest they’ve caused of late, Tonga and Fatu are well in contention of dethroning the reigning champions.

Johnny Gargano recently endured a personal loss

A few days ago, Johnny Gargano had something heartbreaking to share. As he revealed via a lengthy note on X, his father’s 50-year-old restaurant was reduced to ashes last week. It was the place where he basically grew up.

And to see it ravaged was tormenting for Gargano and his family. Fortunately, Johnny’s dad wasn’t at the site when the fire caught the building. The former NXT North American Champion even apologized to the fans who were looking forward to stopping by the restaurant during the SummerSlam weekend.

Speaking of which, the local boy doesn’t seem to even make it to the card of The Biggest Party of the Summer. This would be a setback for Johnny’s fans. However, they’d hope WWE somehow lets Gargano be a part of the PLE in some capacity.
