John Cena called it quits on his in-ring career last December after tapping out to Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event. While wrestling retirements have been historically notorious for not staying intact, Cena has time and again asserted that he would never wrestle again. The 48-year-old Hollywood mogul reaffirmed it this past weekend while speaking at MegaCon Orlando 2026 during a Q&A panel session.

‘The Franchise Player’ expressed his penchant for attending such events, as they often lead to him making headlines based off whatever he shares on stage. So he decided to give away some more information. The 17-time world champion revealed that he’s been working diligently to figure out his next path as a useful and contributing member of WWE. Cena teased that he might’ve cracked the code too.

I am working diligently to try to figure out my next path as a contributing, useful member of WWE. I think I might’ve cracked the code here. I think we have something, and if the stars align and everybody signs off, I will be a whole lot more integrated in the system, and I’m very excited about the road ahead. I just cross my fingers that it works.

It appears like the Peacemaker star has something up his sleeve that he obviously didn’t want to disclose just about right then. ‘The Cenation Leader’ is still awaiting an official nod from WWE to make it public. If this does end up working out the way he’s envisioned it, Cena will be a lot more integrated into the system. Does that mean he’s likely assuming a backstage role in WWE?

That would be too much of an ask from him considering he has a lot on his Hollywood plate as well. The fans have since been recklessly speculating about John Cena‘s still-under-wraps avenue with WWE. Some believe he could be a part-time producer, which, if it happens, would be hinged on his filming commitments.

The fans are also hoping for the ‘Babe Ruth of WWE’ to lend his voice to commentary at the company’s tentpole shows like WrestleMania. At one point, it was rumored that Cena could be inducted into the 2026 Hall of Fame class of WWE, which isn’t happening now. But one of his greatest antagonists, AJ Styles, has been announced for that honor.

‘The Phenomenal One’ was taken aback when The Undertaker pulled up to Raw in Styles’ home state of Georgia and surprised everyone by announcing AJ as the latest inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame. BodySlam later reported that the company would like Cena to induct Styles into the HOF. It remains to be seen whether it happens or not.

In the same Q&A panel as mentioned above, John Cena was asked about the incredible match he had with AJ Styles at Crown Jewel in Perth. Cena revealed that Styles had informed him about his decision to retire in January. ‘The Prototype’ termed that as a moment of serendipity between them, which he could share now.

Cena decided to do something special for Styles the moment it dawned upon him that the former Bullet Club leader was also a few months away from hanging up his boots. The entire wrestling fraternity was overwhelmed with what these icons were able to put together in their last WWE match against each other.

Both men paid tribute to some of their career-best rivals by borrowing their finishing maneuvers and using them to their advantage. The RAC Arena in Perth bore witness to arguably the best part about an otherwise haphazardly-booked WWE farewell tour of John Cena.

Cena is someone who doesn’t watch his matches back to avoid stressing about what he could have done differently, because he couldn’t, as the moment has already passed. However, his showdown with Styles was the one he did rewatch and underscored how the fans in attendance were actively calling the spots for them.
