It is finally settling in for fans that John Cena’s 23-year WWE journey is entering its last chapter. Over the past year, the 17-time World Champion has delivered memorable matches against Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Logan Paul, and AJ Styles. Now, his final four appearances are lined up, and the countdown has truly begun.

Cena recently appeared in a pre-recorded video to announce a 16-man tournament that will decide who earns the honor of facing him in his final match on December 13 at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, D.C.

The tournament, titled ‘The Last Time is Now’, begins on the November 10 episode of Raw in Cena’s hometown of Boston. He even revealed that the tournament participants will be chosen at random, featuring a mix of Superstars from Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and possibly even talent from outside WWE.

During the announcement video, clips of Penta, Carmelo Hayes, Gunther, Rusev, Dominik Mysterio, and Bronson Reed appeared, teasing several potential entrants. The November 10 Raw taping at TD Garden will also feature Cena opening the show in front of his home crowd. Ahead of the emotional homecoming, he shared a heartfelt message with fans on social media.

Tomorrow night @tdgarden will be a very special stop on the Farewell Tour. Looking forward to an incredible night in Boston with my @WWE family! Tomorrow night LIVE on @netflix!

Moreover, the first-round tournament matches will begin that night. Two bouts are already confirmed as Sheamus will take on Shinsuke Nakamura, and Rusev will clash against Damian Priest on the same show.

The next set of matches will take place on November 14, with The Miz facing Jey Uso and LA Knight going up against a mystery opponent as revealed by Nick Aldis on last week’s SmackDown.

Sheamus talks about his first WWE title win which came against John Cena at TLC 2009

Just 166 days after making his television debut on an episode of ECW, Sheamus made history by capturing the WWE Championship. ‘The Celtic Warrior’ earned the title in dramatic fashion, sending John Cena crashing through a table at WWE’s 2009 TLC pay-per-view. On a recent edition of Raw Recap, Sheamus reflected on that milestone moment, calling it a lifelong dream fulfilled.

The Irishman reminisced on how quickly everything happened for him and said that becoming a world champion was always his main goal. He never wanted to be someone who simply filled out the roster. He wanted real success, and winning the top title was the ultimate achievement in his eyes.

He even explained that he grew up watching WWE constantly. The veteran never missed Saturday Night’s Main Event, the Saturday morning shows, or any era from the New Generation to the Attitude Era. As a lifelong fan, becoming a champion wasn’t just a career milestone for him. It was the dream that every passionate WWE fan grew up imagining.

When I look back, and obviously it came so fast, that was the goal for me always was to not just make up the numbers, but to be successful and obviously win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. That’s the creme de la creme.

At the time Sheamus won the title, he had been under the WWE umbrella for only two years, starting in Florida Championship Wrestling. Because of that, he still viewed himself as relatively green on the main roster. Even so, he believed he brought something different to the table.

Sheamus said he always believed his intensity set him apart from everyone else in WWE. Along with his pale skin, red hair, and Dublin accent, that intensity made him stand out. Moreover, he explained that this fiery, aggressive energy has always been the trait he relied on the most throughout his career.

For the unversed, Sheamus’ first reign as WWE Champion lasted 70 days, ending when Cena reclaimed the title by winning the 2010 Elimination Chamber match. Later on in his career, the Irishman also won the World Heavyweight title at WrestleMania 28 and the WWE title once again at Survivor Series 2015.
