Following his subpar WrestleMania 41 showdown with Cody Rhodes, the onus was on John Cena to crank it up in his rematch against ‘The American Nightmare’ at SummerSlam. And that’s exactly what happened. The 17-time World Champion wrestled like it was his swan song and pulled out all the stops to woo the audience. Consequently, it received a 5-star rating from Dave Meltzer.

It does hold a huge significance for Cena, as he now has two five-star-rated matches from Meltzer under his belt. The 48-year-old actor first earned this distinction back in 2011 at Money in the Bank PLE when he and CM Punk collided in the latter’s hometown of Chicago, Illinois, for the WWE Championship. They even had their last singles match quite recently at Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia.

Circling back to Cena’s latest bout with Rhodes, the latter ousted ‘The Cenation Leader’ to become the new WWE Champion. Rhodes had been chasing it since being unjustly robbed of the title belt at WrestleMania 41, where Travis Scott got involved in the ending. That series of events received heavy criticism from the fans, and Meltzer rated it just 1.75 stars out of 5.

The aforementioned star rating system of WON’s Dave Meltzer has, over the years, continued to receive its fair share of ridicule. The majority of the hardcore wrestling audience have, time and time again, questioned the wrestling historian’s algorithm to rate a certain bout.

Wrestling classics like The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels from WrestleMania 25 or any of Kurt Angle‘s memorable matches, especially the one he had with HBK at WrestleMania 21, have never received a 5-star rating. In a nutshell, Meltzer’s rating system is out and out a Pandora’s box.

John Cena set for Logan Paul showdown at Clash in Paris

Almost a week after losing his WWE title to Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam, John Cena showed up on SmackDown to express some of his lingering insecurities. The Hollywood mogul revealed fearing about the fact that the WWE Universe would forget about him when he rides off into the sunset in December. Cena also admitted that he’s afraid of Brock Lesnar.

‘The Babe Ruth of WWE’ exclaimed that he wouldn’t choose ‘The Beast’ as his opponent in any universe but affirmed that he’s never backed down from the former UFC Champion. The Heads of State actor declared that he’s afraid that Lesnar has now gotten himself into a John Cena problem. Also, he invited the 10-time world champion to have a crack at him whenever he feels like it.

Until then, Cena issued a challenge to anyone in the back to come out and fight him. He did get his demand fulfilled, but at Logan Paul‘s expense. The latter asserted that he wanted to have a match with ‘The Franchise Player’, which seemed enticing to John Cena, so he gauged the live crowd reaction to lean toward accepting it. The Montreal folks were dragged down to reality when Paul disparaged their city and quipped that they don’t deserve to hold a classic like that.

‘The Maverick’ proposed to do it in the French capital at WWE Clash in Paris on August 31. After issuing the challenge, Paul’s SummerSlam tag team partner, Drew McIntyre, blindsided John Cena from behind, and they launched a 2-on-1 assault on him. Cody Rhodes saved the day for ‘The Prototype’ by arriving to his aid. They later teamed up on the show to battle Paul and McIntyre. It ended in a DQ when ‘The Maverick’ low-blowed the 17-time world champion in an act of cowardice.
