The WWE Universe is quickly getting to know Joe Hendry, especially after the popular star recently appeared on NXT. He has gained a larger fanbase worldwide because of his hit entrance song, “I Believe in Joe Hendry.” However, there was a time when the Scottish wrestler was just a teenage boy who loved WWE. Recently, he recalled a heartwarming story of when his best friend arranged a phone call with John Cena.

While speaking with Chris Van Vliet on the Insight podcast, Joe Hendry stated that when he was 15, he unfortunately couldn’t attend a WWE show with his friend. During the meet and greet, his friend requested that John Cena talk to him on the phone, and surprisingly, he did. The 36-year-old star remembered talking to him for 10 minutes and believing that he was going to win the world title at WrestleMania.

The TNA star admitted that the moment he shared with the G.O.A.T. was a crucial one for his career. He expressed his desire to be in the ring with the 16-time world champion one day, and in his words, that’s when his life would come full circle. In his current run in TNA, he has won the Impact Digital Media Championship once.

Speaking of his visit to NXT, he appeared on the June 18 episode as one of the TNA representatives and participated in the battle royal. Despite being one of the most popular wrestlers in the ring, fellow TNA star Frankie Kazarian eliminated him immediately. Interestingly, Hendry appeared on WWE TV exactly 10 years ago as one of the Russian representatives for Vladimir Putin and accompanied Rusev to the ring.

Joe Hendry talked about how Cody Rhodes helped him get a job in Ring of Honor

Behind Joe Hendry’s recent success worldwide, there is a very popular figure who helped him in his initial stages. That person is none other than the current Undisputed WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes. The Scottish wrestler talked on the podcast about the impact The American Nightmare had on his career.

While speaking in the same interview, the former Impact Digital Media Champion revealed the story of their first meeting as wrestlers. He stated that Cody was the one who pulled some strings and arranged the phone call between him and ROH. Hendry mentioned that during his time in Ring of Honor, he learned a lot.

Cody set up that call between me and Ring of Honor and honestly, it was like the deal was done in five minutes. All of this happened because of that call, and I wouldn't have gotten to TNA, if I hadn't learned so much in Ring of Honor. So I definitely Owe Cody Rhodes a cigar, He's a great dude.

The popular star even said that he owed Cody a cigar for having such an impact on his life. Meanwhile, The American Nightmare successfully defended his title against AJ Styles in the “I Quit” match at Clash at the Castle. After what happened following the event, the 38-year-old star will compete in six-man tag team action against The Bloodline at Money in the Bank.
