Cody Rhodes is regarded by many as today’s John Cena and is even considered a natural successor to the Cenation Leader. Both are white-meat babyfaces who have been portrayed as the face of the company. Thus, the WWE Universe was expecting a match-up between these two at some point, potentially at WrestleMania. This would be a true passing-of-the-torch moment. However, it appears the wrestling legend’s father is not a huge fan of this bout.

Speaking on Sportskeeda WrestleBinge, John Cena Sr. stated that he had nothing but good things to say about Cody Rhodes. However, he felt that Gunther was currently at the peak of his career, and that would be the marquee match for Cena at WrestleMania 41. He also said that in the future, he would like for the American Nightmare to face The Ring General in a winner-take-all match.

Many fans theorized that the Hollywood superstar would win the upcoming Royal Rumble to earn himself another world championship opportunity at WrestleMania. He would go on to face Gunther, who is a perfect heel for a character like Cena. After this match, he could finally break the record for the most number of world title victories.

However, insider reports suggest that Cena’s father may not get his wish. His son is speculated to be going up against Rhodes. Meanwhile, Gunther may be busy elsewhere. Currently, his rumored opponent is Seth Rollins. The latter will supposedly challenge him for the World Heavyweight Championship at the Showcase of the Immortals.

Drew McIntyre makes a spine-chilling threat to John Cena ahead of the Royal Rumble

John Cena returned to WWE on the inaugural episode of Raw on Netflix. During the episode, he announced his entry into the Royal Rumble and said that he had world title aspirations. This news shocked a lot of people in the wrestling world. Meanwhile, Drew McIntyre had an extremely hostile reaction to this news.

In an interview with The Babyfaces Podcast, McIntyre said that Cena should hope for his own good that he does not end up in the ring at the same time as the Scottish Warrior. The last time a returning wrestler (CM Punk) faced off against him in the Royal Rumble, he ended up with a torn tricep.

I’m gonna ask Cena to pick the muscle or pick the bone because I’m either tearing it or breaking it.

McIntyre is another one of the favorites to win the Royal Rumble match on February 1st. He has had an incredible 2024, and his heel turn has been nothing short of extraordinary.
