NFL HOF John Elway asserts teams should “entertain” Travis Hunter’s two-way skills
Hall of Famer John Elway has seen many things in his time on the gridiron, but his latest infatuation has been about Travis Hunter's ability to play two ways.

Travis Hunter leads the Heisman Trophy race because of his unique ability to play both wide receiver and cornerback. Hall of Famer John Elway believes the Colorado Buffaloes star athlete has the potential and the abilities to continue his ways even in the NFL.
Although Hunter hasn’t announced for the 2025 draft just yet, several mock drafts predict him to be a top 5 pick. Elway believes whichever team takes the 21-year-old should utilize his strengths and play him in both offense and defense.
When you look at his athletic ability and what he’s done, he’s still a young guy. So, I think he’s going to continue to get better.
John Elway said during a recent segment of the Nick Ferg podcast
Hunter wants to reprise his role for his future NFL team. However, a section of scouts and coaches predict that will not be the situation in the NFL, as it’s very different from college football. Professional gridiron is a much harsher environment, and defensive backs have to put in the extra effort against faster receivers.
Elway differs from that opinion. From his point of view, Hunter’s athleticism makes him the perfect individual for such a role.
I don’t think there’s any question you get your best athletes on the field… There’s no question… [that] I would entertain him going both ways, and obviously, he’s proven he can do that.

Deion Sanders can get NFL teams to play Travis Hunter both ways
Colorado head coach and HOF Deion Sanders was an enigma during his playing days. He possessed a similar skill set to Hunter and won multiple Super Bowls. Sanders wants the same as Elway: for teams to give Hunter as many reps as he can play.

In a recent interview, Sanders highlighted Hunter’s qualities while campaigning for Heisman. He hinted that it may prove to be a deal breaker if the teams don’t honor Hunter’s decision, even a return to Colorado to finish his senior year.
You never know how the NFL acts. If that certain team don’t want to allow him to do what he does… you never know what he may do.
